True mate !! Unless you was in Hull tonight it would be hard to believe how many was out. Started and ended in Bourbon Craft. COC is already worth it regardless of what follows. The light show in Victoria Square is observed with total silence. It was outstanding and it's hard to not get a bit emotional. Hats off big time to the people that put it on. Bring on more.
The mrs works for council. An Aussie lass has applied and got a job in Hull. They skyped her to interview. Seriously over qualified for the role. Said she just wants to be in Hull for 2017 and be a part of it all. No connection to Hull either.
I was in Bourbon Craft at 9 pm tonight. There was an Irish couple In there taking pictures to send to their daughter back in Ireland. It was for hangover cures. They thought it was great in there.
Yes but it's still people getting out and doing things they don't normally do. Now that for me is a start and some will come back. Small steps Cas.!!
I agree, the crowds were unbelievable and generally well managed. I went for the second time. Can't believe the Made in Hull show was just as emotional. I honestly thought the first time that the films showing on the three buildings were exactly the same, but was in a position to see all three tonight and they certainly weren't. In fact some shots were total wraparound. I went with my cynical brother who lives away and was telling me before he'd seen the one at Durham which was fantastic, so wouldn't be anything special. He admitted this was in a totally different league. Blown away by the Humber St/ Marina development. Was good to see how organisers learnt lessons during the week with crowd control ie one way paths into Vicky Sq, moving ineffective screens, etc. Not sure how they are suppose to follow that though!
I brought the family back home to see the light show, and I've never seen the town centre as busy as it was this evening, total bedlam. Parked illegally somewhere ( thankfully not ticketed) and took a rest bite in the wonderful Yinjibar restaurant. It was certainly worth the hassle of hustle and bustle to see the shows which were observed in awe by everyone. Took forever to get out of town and back on the road back to Manchester, but we'll be coming back as often as possible to witness more culture from my home city.
There's an article in HDM tonight about the Blitz preparations (how the City enacted a mock Blitz) just before the War. Are the two linked ?
Went to the opening fireworks, which were brilliant but felt part of NYE, decided to go round again tonight to see bits we missed. Town was packed solid, really felt more like City of Culture has started and the whole city is onboard and buzzing, exceeding expectations, well done everyone.
I think they need to think on their feet and revisit this light show in December. I don't mean the same format but do it again with new video. Just go for it without all of the works going on.
As I write this a turbine blade work of art from Siemens is being erected at the junction of Alfred Gelder Street and Saville Street to form the next must see item, the job has been going on all night. http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/live...culture-2017/story-30038254-detail/story.html
What? Fake news I'm afraid. Cant be Vicky square. It's set up with projectors and lighting rigs. I saw it myself at 8pm last night FFS
Jesus - thing looks bloody massive. Left a bit, right a bit. To me to you. All outstandingly excellent. I've been totally staggered by the number of people from out of town. Someone should send that tool Mike Graham a weekly total for visitor numbers. The **** him. I can't see how it can do anything other than enhance the image and reputation of our City.
Bloody hell john you're quick with the pictures. How did you manage to get into to hull from pock so quickly.
I was in the city centre again last night and although pleasing to see the turnout it was chaotic which made me think that the organisers have missed a trick here. Webcams are situated all over the world these days so a couple in Victoria Square would have beamed the goings on to the world including this latest venture. I do understand that Webcams may have impacted the turnout but the overall audience would have been far greater.
I stood at the end of a blade looking down it at the factory and they are an incredible size and sight. It's going to be suspended high enough so buses can go under it ! I did know this was happening, but even so it looks amazing
