Sound the alarms, man the lifeboats, military men reach for your weapon. Corrin Wood is back over fences of the morrow (1.30 Newcastle). He’s now 3 lbs lower than when finishing 4th in last month’s ‘Tommy Whittle’ and off such a perch you would expect the old boy to gain his first success for 3 years. Races tomorrow off just 125 which is a long, long, long way below his peak figure of 156. Meanwhile, at Winkers Port Navas (1.30) stands out in his first run over fences. He’s twice been runner-up over hurdles, this term, and an opening perch of just 89 looks most exploitable. You would imagine that those old rogues, the Pipe’s, would be quite capable of running up a sequence, over the big ‘uns, with this one. But my main advice tomorrow would have to be for one running in the card commencer at Wolverhampton. Although he remains a maiden JUST FRED (5.45) really improved towards the back-end of last year and has gone close in each of his last 3 heats. Tomorrow though he has his first run for Neil Mulholland after previously being with Denis Coakley. The old boy is rated just 50 and you would have to imagine that his switched-on new handler can exploit this perching to the full and I don’t think it dappy to say that I would imagine that this change of barns will give Just Fred’s career a huge boost. Neil Mulholland is in sound form with, at the time of writing, 3 winners since St Stephen’s Day. I’ve no idea who the jockey is but Jane Elliott had a winner at the beginning of December plus she has a lovely name for an apprentice pilot so it looks good on that score. This apprentice heat looks a very, very weak affair with Just Fred’s opponents looking either out of form or, to put it bluntly, not very good and I think he will oblige of the morrow. Recommended. Good luck all.
I think Finian's Oscar is a cracking bet at 15/8 to win the Tolworth Hurdle. He looked an absolute monster when defeating Acting Lass at Hereford on debut and looks to have a fair bit of speed, despite that debut win coming over 2m 5f. The predominantly soft ground will be right up his street, something which doesn't apply to favourite Capitaine, who has only won with good in the going description and was beaten on soft at Haydock in a listed event. Mr Tizaaaaaaaaaaard is very bullish about Finian's Oscar and I think we will see why in this race.
An each way sniff for me tomorrow is Global Stage in the Tolworth. On looks he looked like he carried quite a bit of condition on his bumper run, travelled powerfully and got tired in the closing stages on heavy ground. He may need further in time(full brother to Out Sam) but i am quietly confident he can vastly outrun his 33/1 odds.
hush hush.....Lady Buttons ew (but may suprise) 2:10 Newscastle on the QT but very very confident Stay Frosty xx
Could not agree more. I have had a good one on this fellow! I have also taken 10-1 about him for any race at the Festival - presumably the Neptune where he is 16-1, but in case they do something different, I don't mind taking the hit of 6 spots Over at Winc Wild West Wind in the 2-40 is expected to win. By me anyway
In that veterans chase at Sandown tomorrow Dynaste will prove one of the following. (1) he's done with the racing malarkey and needs to be retired or (2) Pipe is the biggest fiddler in the game. I'm opting for the latter 7/1.
3:00 Sandown Court By Surprise 16/1 Theatrical Star 10/1 &RFC Think these pair are dangerously handicapped and have got two good jockeys doing those weights of 10st4 and 10st5. The former sometimes seems to spit his dummy out but I can see him travelling into it nicely- whereas the latter should relish a stiff course like Sandown- couldn't split them.
Cork 3.05- Jp Sting is on Squouteur tomo, nicked some 16 there.Ive had a decent Ew cut.Billy the bolix Hill still 14s;Paddys onto it at 8s.
Mercian Prince 1.15 Sandown 9/2 I was quite impressed by the way Mercian Prince quickened clear at Southwell last time and I fancy he can win again. Knockraha Pylon 2.30 Cork 8/1 ew He is a pretty consistent horse over hurdles and has been steadily climbing the handicap. He is stepped up in trip here which isn't a problem. I fancy him to run his race again and should place or better.
Must be crazy betting in the veterans race at Sandown today. We know plenty about them but we also know that most are on the decline! Throw my hat in the ring with CLOUDY TOO @ 14/1 who has shown fair form lately and has a decent pull with Gas Line Boy. ILLWALKTHELINE went into the notebook after a recent bumper victory and I will be amazed if it doesn't defy the penalty at Newcastle today.
Don't usually play doubles but think these two should win handy enough. 12.45 Sandown Lifeboat Mona 9/4 12.50 Cork Veinard 11/10 Double comes in at very close to 6/1, so hopefully could be a decent 10minutes or so.
Cloudy Too now has no chance. One. I backed last night. Like Lifeboat Mona today on the softer ground and think Fox Appeal can continue his renaissance
I was a gnats whisker away from having a share in Lifeboat Mona, a choice I am already regretting but you cannot do it all huh.
I'm going with bennys mist in the veterans chase at sandown, will like the ground and Liam treadwell rides 25/1ew
