The only rumour I can find is Manolo Gabbiadin but seeing as the club say the only truth about any signings comes from them and no else I think it is pie-in-the-sky. Also Claude Puel said he was happy with the squad at the beginning of the season. He also covered his bottom recently saying that if a player becomes available and it is what we need we might add to the squad (para-phrase) so he can say 'we tried' even if we really didn't.

Interesting recent article about him said he was known to be dogmatic and hard-nosed in France so don't expect any admittance to being wrong with playing staff or tactics in the new year.

This could be very bad news if we carry on performing as we have been recently. I'm still concerned about failing to take our chances and the spirit of the team being so low that as soon as we concede a goal we are beaten (you can see it in the body language) and what with Shane Long saing an equaliser did us in against WBA - a bloody equaliser not a go-ahead goal - we might be in for a rough old 2017.

Things might get better but I'm not so sure myself.

Exactly right FLT. The 4-2-3-1 formation was so successful in the past because in possession it almost became 4-2-4 so had plenty supporting the striker. The diamond fell down as the two strikers included a winger who is struggling to adapt to the transformation and the ball took too long to get up to the front.
The other advantage of the 4-2-3-1 is it allows you to "press" higher up the pitch and not do as we are doing now ie defend deep and in numbers thus inviting teams onto us

    Breaking News:

Morgan has been spotted at Southampton airport.

Reports suggest he doesn't come cheaply but he is so cool, calm and collected, that this is what Southampton need right now to stabilise the team and its supporters.

This will be seen as a major coup for Southampton football club and the next step in building their profile. He is a top professional and to have Morgan Freeman on the sound system announcing the line ups and wishing Melanie Wilson a happy 8th birthday will make such a difference. Sorry, bored waiting for news.

This morning on talkSport's transfer news (yes I know!) they reported that Stoke (yes Stoke FFX) are preparing a £24m bid for Gabbiadini. That prices us completely out the equation if big hitters like the Potters are throwing that kind of cash about.

I have no idea about that rumour or whether we're after Gabbiadini (Beefy has suggested we are and he's usually reliable) but I did wonder a while ago whether other clubs would start trying to keep track of what Saints are doing and try to outbid us for players.

We spent £10m on Redmond, which on this summers prices was the equivalent of a toenail clipping. You may not rate him (fair enough) but the amount spent on him was relatively peanuts if you look at the market trend.

Someone made a point about Shane Long (3 or 4 pages back in the bickering) and I just realised something about him this year.

Normally I always feel for Shane as he gets clattered by keepers, defenders attackers etc. Can anyone think of one time this season where you have feared he won't get up?! (I can think of 2 or 3 times a game last season). Clearly the system isn't for him as that is one of his strengths - he puts himself about and is a menace.

    Just an observation.
