I don't disagree. But the lad only turned 23 at the start of this season. That's only 18 months older than McQueen, and even less than JWP. And I don't think anyone expects either of those two to be anywhere close to being the finished product yet.

I pretty much give Berahino equal chance of playing in L1 at age 27 or 28, as I do him playing for Liverpool or Utd at that age. I'm not sitting here hoping we take a punt on that, I would much, much rather we looked elsewhere, at someone who we can be fairly confident will be a success (and without any associated agro). But I'd rather go for that punt than go for Ben Arfa.

Ben Arfa only on loan though, Berahino would still have the young player tax as I assume we would have to buy him. Unless his contract is running down, of which I have no idea.

He's out of contract at the end of this season. Although due to his age, I believe that compensation would still be payable to WBA. Ings' bosman move to Liverpool ultimately cost them £8m in compensation to Burnley, through the tribunal.

I wouldn't advocate signing Arfa permenantly at all, but would be quite interested in a 6 month loan.

    * caveat 1.... see my earlier comments about his ego

** caveat 2.... someone above mentioned rather play Hesketh and Sims - I agree with this too.

If Ben Arfa could replicate the form from Nice, he could be instrumental for our finish in the top of the table. Puel obviously knows how to get the best from him, and having such a maverick who can change a game in an instant could often be a difference between a 0:0 draw and a 1:0 win

I want absolutely nothing to do with Ben Arfa. The two necessities if you want to keep him from being a toxic waste of space are to i) start him every game, and ii) make him the centerpiece of the team. He isn't good enough to merit such treatment.

I see the BBC Football webpage has an article about players who are likely to be transferred next month. Of course, Virgil features [I await the day when a Saints player isn't pre-sold in the media], because they have him down at a £35M snip. Sorry Beeb, it's about time you stopped trying to do the Sky and gutter press stuff, or at least get yourselves better informed. It's £60M for starters. And Morgan Schneiderlin is priced at £24M.! After a few seasons of not playing.? Are they daft.?

Quite refreshing to hear from Robbie Mustoe on TV overhere, stating that we don't need to sell anyone, and Saints are in a strong position, as a lot of our players have signed long term contracts.
Of course we all know that, but for an ex player to say it is great.

In answer to your very last question: yes.

it would be so hard for Morgan to come back here, pretty sure that Les would try, but Puel may have different plans and sees the midfield dept fine, 25 mil on Morgan would basically end any interest in a quality striker

The value of promotion is worth way more to them than anything we could offer. No matter what we offered they would simply reject it and hope he helps then win promotion.

True. I hope he stays and they go up. I'd like us to challenge Everton for Lookman though.

Challenge Everton for everyone. Not necessarily because we want them, but to push up what Everton ultimately end up paying in transfer fees and wages.

Leave Brighton alone. I want them and Reading to join us and Bournemouth in the PL next season. It is where the four top teams in the South belong.

Reading are not in the South, they are dirty filthy northerners. Filthy. Complete filth.
