Here's a thing - if Redmond had come slithering through Alli in the area with a tackle, it would have been a penalty, but under the new rules it wouldn't have been a sending off (as he would have been making a genuine attempt to win the ball).

    How daft is that?

Is it though? Tackling (if executed correctly) is a legitimate method of winning the ball. Shirt pulling isn't.

That said, there does actually need to be a shirt pull in the box. I've just seen a replay for the first time, and it's clearly outside the box.

Oh it's a free kick but no one can complain about the red card.

Yep I have just looked at the full rules - the only debatable thing is the penalty, definitely a red now in the clear (i.e. no alcohol) light of day :)

Indeed. Redmond was still stupid to do what he did, at that time of the match, and deserved to walk. But by giving away a FK, not a penalty.

Given that it wasn't scored, I'm not particularly complaining.

And Rojo can be 2 footed studs showing airborne in 2 games running and doesn't get a red :headbang:

That was a very disappointing result.

Without being a right old drama queen (ok, maybe a little bit), last night's game also convinced me that this will be my last season as a season ticket holder. So, apart from a couple of years working abroad in the 90's, I've been almost ever present since 1975.

It's not the results, it's not the football (although I do find the current incarnation to be a tough watch at times), the main reason is the atmosphere, or lack of, at Saints home games. So dull these days. Where are all the nippers these days? I'd hazard a guess that Males between 18 & 25 are probably the least represented aged group at St Mary's. Ground is full of old farts (like me) and an absolute abundance of people who seem to think watching a game in the ground is like watching it on TV on their sofa. So many barely move when we score, when there's any action, and even the red card last night only stirred about a minute of outrage and anger before it was back to silence.

Not painting a rose-tinted version of "the good old days" being a non-stop raucous noise fest at either the Dell or early years at St Mary's. But there was at least a bit of an atmosphere with the crowd generally getting behind the team. Now the length of silences at St Mary's stretch out for what feels like ages. It's not good and it's boring and it's not what football should be like. Well, for me, anyway. Just too many things that make me cringe at St Mary's, like that "song" before kick off. Which is embarrassing.

All good things come to an end, I guess.

The missed penalty was down to over watering of the pitch, first time I won't complain about it.

Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.

We've lost two games at home and both times the other team were better than us. It happens, we're not the best team in the league. I'm not too disappointed and confident we can bounce back against WBA.

I have to say that I'm beginning to find our "support" embarrassing. If we don't score for a while (even if we're ahead) the crowd just shuts up totally. There were points last night when I was (literally) singing alone. And I'm a middle aged git. There should be youngsters around me embarrassing me into singing, not the other way round. Then again, it might just be that they couldn't sing over the whining.

EDIT: And yes, I HATE that bloody "My Way" song too.

He didn't actually make any contact with Alli in the box, aside from brushing arms with each other. Not a foul, not a penalty and certainly not a red card. Only thing you could have said is that there was a foul about 5 metres before either player was in the box.
Shocking decision by a shocking ref. Refereed 3 spurs games this season and has sent off an opposition player in all 3, as well as awarding 2 penalties to spurs. Bit odd that.

The one, and only, positive from that game is the fact redmond is suspended for the next few games.

Had it been identical Vertonghen on Boufal, I doubt that it would have been given?

Well on Betfair someone (someone) had £50 on Spurs at 11/5 for a top four finish. Not saying it's anyone in particular but... well.

If that doesn't get Tom out guns blazing, I don't know what will.
