Just come up on the BBC sport website that this has happened. Cleverly is 21 and is yet to make a league appearance for United, although he impressed in the community shield and during his loan spell at Wigan athletic.

Thoughts? Im delighted to have another united player in the international scene and despite a lack of experience at this point he is clearly talented and the friendly against Holland would be the perfect time to try him out, but even if he doesn't play (as is probably likely) i think the fact he has been noticed can only bring more confidence to him and his game.

I hope to God he doesn't play. Especially if Holland play a strong team. What happened to that Henderson bloke after his England debut?

Well he could deal with Citys 600 million pound squad so im sure he could handle it. He's better than Henderson anyway. I do see what your saying though and half a season with United could help him deal with the pressure.

If Holland play a weak team and by that I mean a "youthful"/inexperienced team then I can understand playing Cleverley. But if they don't, then for the love of God, why don't England take the game seriously? They are playing one of the best teams in the world and England want to call up players that have hardly played for their own clubs?

It's ridiculous. Why not play Carrick or Parker, the kind of players that will actually play regularly during the qualifying for Euro 2012 or whatever.

I'm glad to see the likes of Tom and Danny getting international recognition and in a few years I've no doubt that they will England regulars, but why do they need this extra pressure? The media will be pinning all of England's hopes for Euro 2010 and WC 2014 on them and it's just wrong. I don't care about England tbh, I just cannot bear to see this hinder their progress for United. Hopefully it will make them better players but I've citited Jordan Henderson as an example. He was anonymous against France, there was simply no need to play him.

Clearly he had a good game yesterday and is destined to be a England regular but I would question why he should be called up now. The kid needs to cement a place in his club side, that should be his sole focus. England is a distraction, too often the flavour of the month is called up only to play a bit part (or not at all) and expectations are raised. If I was advising him I would tell him to buckle down and focus on being a regular at his club, an England cap will come in time.

As for the dig at Henderson, was anybody even suggesting Cleverley should be in the England squad prior to yesterday?

Some interesting developments is that since this news was announced Lampard, Wilshere and Carrick have all had to withdraw. It may be that cappello did not have many other options these are the remaining midfielders aside from cleverly.

    MF Gareth Barry
    MF Stewart Downing
    MF James Milner
    MF Ashley Young
    MF Adam Johnson
    MF Scott Parker

Looks like he should make the bench.

    Team would probably be:

    Hart
    Richards - Terry - Ferdinand - Cole
    Parker - Milner/Barry
    Downing/Johnson - Rooney - Young
    Carroll

Yeah, compared to the Dutch team which will probably be:

    Stekelenburg
Van Der Wiel - Heitinga - Mathijsen - Pieters
Van Bommel - Van Der Vaart
    Robben - Sneijder - Kuyt
    Huntelaar

Can see us being given the run around in midfield I'm afraid.

A lot of it has been down to sheer frustration probably. That these players have proven they can cut it in the Champions League but not in major International tournamnets. The Chelsea players have been treated the same as well. Interseting to say you'll never support them again - what if in 5 years time, the situation arises whereby the likes of Cleverly, Rooney, Morrison, Smalling, Jones etc. are all in the England side which isn't inconceivable.

Yeah I suppose if it was full of united players I would want them to do well, but I honestly will never support the team again.

I couldnt stand by them type of fans!!!!!!!!!

I would like to see any united player win a world cup but I will not be cheering england on at any point
