In defence of Enrique, Liverpool will be in Europe next year, and there's a decent chance it'll be the CL.

That's what they are. Good tactic though, because they know we'll sell, and they know we cant negotiate a price if they leave it late.

Some highlights in here, he's number 5 for Holland, makes a couple of blocks and a great clearance at 6:37 :)

Did Pieters play against us in the friendly last season?

Don't seem to remember any of their defenders standing out.

Read somewhere he has left the Dutch squad due to family bereavement or something.

There are people who think we will sign Pieters and keep Enrique? WOW

As soon as we have a replacement sorted, Jose will be gone.

I am happy with Enrique staying and getting in Pieters.

But I agree with Andyeswecan. He will be offloaded but it would be a good deal for us.

Jose will be gone and hopefully Pieters in, this plus Obertan and a quality striker it won't actually be that bad a transfer window for us.

We are one piece of a jigsaw away from a half decent side.

Obertan I think will be a good signing. As is Pieters and they are both young.

    Striker now please!

I doubt it. Liverpool have drastically overspent on average players. Man Utd, City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs will finish above them again. The only shance they have is through the cups

The England game being called off could mean the deal will go though alittle quicker!

Don't know if it has been mentioned but NUFCFans on Twitter said:

Tim Krul has told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf that #NUFC are interested in PSV's Dutch left-back Erik Pieters. #NUFC #fb

Krul > "The coach himself & assistants have already seen a few matches of PSV & question now is whether clubs can work it out."

PSV Eindhoven defender Erik Pieters has cleared the way for a move to Newcastle after admitting frustration at his treatment by coach Fred Rutten.

Pieters, who is currently part of the Holland squad preparing to face England, was due to be watched by Toon manager Alan Pardew and chief scout Graham Carr last weekend. However, despite being fully fit, the 23-year-old was only named on the bench, meaning Pardew decided to stay in England.

But Carr did make the trip, and managed to catch a glimpse of the promising left-back as a second half substitute in the 3-1 defeat to AZ Alkmaar. Pieters has since linked up with the national team, but revealed his disappointment at being left out out of the PSV team in the Dutch media, who now suggest a move is imminent.

Newcastle are long-term admirers of the former Utrecht star, and know PSV would be powerless to prevent a transfer, due to a release clause inserted in a recent contract extension.

That and 'Arry is fobbing off the EL to concentrate fully on the prem, he's already said that he's going to be sticking the kids in the europe games and go all out for that champions league spot. I still think top 4 will be same as last season though. Hoping for another **** season for those bindipping twats as well.

    And also:

How do we keep finding out about these things?

Its daft to assume HMT that because Enrique wants European football, it mean he has to move somewhere who has it this season. He may be considering Liverpool as having a good chance of CL football this season after their improvements, Europa League at worst. He'd still be joining a bigger club with a much more progressive outlook, and be increasing his chances of international recognition. As for playing left footed players right back, that's just silly. You only do that when you've got no other option. i.e. like Liverpool last year when Johnson played left back because they had no proper left backs (Konchesky doesn't count)

Well, if enrique wants CL football, and if Liverpool won't have it this year, and if Enrique can go whereever he wants when his contract expires next year, why gamble on Liverpool getting a CL spot ? Why not just wait and see ?
