There are an awful lot of parents whose kids are doing this arson and looting, and either they know where they are and dont care, or they don't care where they are.

Ponders, I know you are in a frightening position where you are but although this may have been kicked off by the shooting of a twenty year old black male it has now progressed into a general youth rampage with no other purpose than having a crack and picking up some free goods. They know that there are so many of them that nothing will be done but a slap and a warning.

Nope, have my head in Catford. Walked to the local retail park and it was white kids being lairy to the police. We know how this started and where, but the copycat looting and violence involves young people of all ethnicities. They are common in their age, not their colour. If it spreads to predominantly white areas of north Kent and Surrey (as is being reported) who will be involved?
Anyway, I don't want to make this a race issue. This thread is about discussion and helping and supporting those of us who are involved (and I know you were particularly affected, PEA). I'm sure we could debate the race issue all night but we will not change each other's mind so an agreement to perhaps have the discussion another time...?

and most of them Mikey, were probably on the streets during the student protests (not students) as well, when they were not collecting their dole money! Full time gits, have no intension of contributing to society but just want to destroy everything other people have worked hard for.

It is a difficult issue to debate, and yes it could take all night, but no-one wants to broach the tough facts of it. Many people in London are too afraid to admit that our great city has been betrayed and run in to the ground by politicians wanting the ethnic vote.
My local MP, Andy Love, was the guy outed as claiming the most expenses during that scandal. He cares not a jot for the white community. He cares only for the huge ethnic population which secures him office time and again. When he retires he will go back to Scotland a very rich man and leave us all to suffer from his open door policy.
Some of you guys seem to turn a blind eye to the truth; that the black youths in inner city areas cause the majority of violent and drug related crimes. They are menacing, intimidating and their culture of aggression is inherent.
I don't speak as a bigot, I speak as someone who works day in day out with the ethnic community and tries to help them sort out the hand that the governement deals them. They come here, they suffer due to the misguided do-gooders who try to find space for them. There is no cohesion, no thought behind the powder keg being built.
Many who work on the streets, like me, and perhaps you, have pleaded with ministers to reverse their policies because they do not work. I work with young black people and know the vast difference in funding for them and that for the white contempories. It is shocking - and racist.

Whilst the football takes a massive backseat, if I am not wrong we are looking at groups of average 50ish in general, targeting football grounds would surely not be wise as they're against 5,000(roughly).

Awful things going on, would have no issue with the game called off, that would be sensible reaction, however I suspect we'd only react once Charlton flares up or other clubs jump. so difficult as you also don't want to show they're winning their mindless fight.

Simply be aware and those in ficinity, stay safe

Problem is Ben, do we want to divert 30 to 50 odd police away from other duties?

    I'm a Croydon boy.
The big Reeve's corner fire is 30 seconds from my family home, as I'm now living in Portsmouth and without my own transport I cannot get there to protect them. My childhood is going up in flames. I don't care if they are white or black, young or old. It needs to stop.
Curfew and something akin to Martial law is what's needed. These 'people' have no concious or pride. As an ex-infantry man (still retained by the TA) this appals me, and looks worse than many of the actual warzones I've seen.
I hope it stops, and soon.

On the train to work which is unusually busy for this time in the morning, alot of people are talking about helping with the clean up, which is good to hear.

In 1714 following a period of civil unrest the authorities in this great country of ours introduced an act the full name of which was shortened to be known as the Riot Act. It permitted the authorities in the towns and cities of our nation to declare any group of twelve or more people to be unlawfully assembled. A statement would have to read out to the mob as follows:
"Our Sovereign Lord the King chargeth and commandeth all persons, being assembled, immediately to disperse themselves, and peaceably to depart to their habitations, or to their lawful business, upon the pains contained in the act made in the first year of King George, for preventing tumults and riotous assemblies. God Save the King!@

This was called "reading the Riot Act" and after a period of one hour any force necessary to restore law and order was permitted and those enforcing the action could not be punished if someone got hurt

Because the ultimate sanction under this was death, the government somewhat over enthusiastically repealed this peace of legislation in 1973 to replace it with the statutory offence of riot for which a magistrate can administer a slap on the wrist. It was a peace of legislation that recognised that civilisation is at risk from the mob and that sometimes we should strengthen the hand of those whose job is to protect us. It was a peace of legislation that was scarcely used in the 20th century but had the right level of gravitas to prevent unlawfully assemblies of the nature we are seeing. In 1973 we kidded ourselves that our civilisation was above this level. I think it is time to learn from our forefathers.

Many of the former dependencies including the USA have retained versions of this legislation (the act of Affray in the US) The Riot Act in parts of Australia, and use it sparingly. Is it them or us who have lost the plot? A modern version of the riot act is needed.
