Great debate last night on super score board about the state of Scottish football. (listen here http://www.clyde1.com/on-air/superscoreboard/listen-again/ ). The thing that came across the most for us having a crap national team is that, as a footballing nation we just don't have that hunger to succeed any more. When you compare us to similar nations we have better facilities and coaching etc but we are still miles behind. What happened? The only thing we used to have going for us was our effort, now we don't even have that.
Bigger league = more breathing space to develop talent and attacking football....or not Anyway **** ssb and international football
Ireland were inviting trouble through out the game tbh. Ireland were without their 3 most influential players so I can't really grumble.
They seemed to panic towards the end and of course made the old mistake which many teams make - defended far too deeply. They were a bit unlucky with the equalising goal which seemed to take a deflection although they gave the scorer far too much space. On what I saw, to be fair, Austria looked like they deserved the draw?
The reasons scottish football is **** are because the players are ****, the facilities are ****, the coaching is ****, the product is ****, the grounds (most) are ****, the playing surfaces are ****, we produce athletes as opposed to footballers which is **** and the mental attitude of scottish players is ****. Even the **** is ****. Oh and no-one is interested much in football as a kid these days. When do you ever seen jumpers for goalposts, in fact any kick around games in the parks, the streets, anywhere actually. In summary **** is **** and **** happens to **** people.
I would like Strachan to organise an spl XI to play that eleven that played the other night . Championship players that might be Scottish and players not getting games for sh*te epl teams is not the way to pick your national team .
Not when you compare it to countries like Bosnia, Croatia etc, even Cyprus. There is no excuses, we just don't put any effort into improving our game. Clubs on the continent train full time 9 to 5, we need to adopt a similar attitude and take the game seriously.
They've got no chance Harry. When you we lost Fletcher for the second game and didn't look at Griffiths or Mackel Smith and instead called up Caddis it was plain to see that SPL player won't be picked regardless of what they do here. Players will go to league 1 to try and get a Scotland cap. ****ing bonkers the people that run our game really do need shot! (Disclaimer - Shot means getting the bullet from their posts not literarily shot)
British game of football hasn't moved with the rules,, since tackling has basically been taken out the game , the European teams with a slower build up and more skill have taken over . Time for a total re think .
The southern European teams have been superior in European competition for as long as European competition has existed.
Well that's not true. Unless you include Germany as "southern europe"? And even then, (and whilst I know we're talking about international football, this is still relevant) English club teams (composed almost entirely of british players) won 7 european cups out of 8 in the late 70s, early 80s. So we've not always been inferior.
