It's hardly a secret. Good spot on your part though. Did you know he'd be there or was it just a random glance?
Completely random spot, but it was about the third time I'd watched when I noticed that familiar shock of hair. Question is, was he a paid extra or was the Alex his pub and he just happened to be there when it was filmed?
Cheers guys. By the way my mum watched this tonight and says she remembers seeing it forty years ago!
Cracking that. I remember watching it back in the 70,s. I was born 100 yards or so from Alex pub and used it in 76 onwards for a few years when I was a three day millionare, our lass used to work at smiff an nefews, and i would meet her in there at dinner time, back in the days when you got a propper dinner hour. And reconized the lad behind the dart woman lol. Also like JF had good memories of little switzerland and Ezzle foreshore. The thing is it really dosent seem that long aga which is quite scary....
Must 'ave missed it when it was first put on here. Just watched it and brought back many memories. Very moving as I left the UK for the USA in 1977. So the BR ferries were still crossing the Humber and Sammy's point was just a waste land and not the Deep!! I related to the lady saying "the old houses were being bulldozed" as my parents F & C shop in Norhumberland Avenue was likewise demolished. I paid a visit just afterwards and salvaged a slate from the roof (which I still have) and the number 63 on the broken remnants of the front door. They retired to Hessle and watched the Bridge being built from their bedroom window. However, I believe one falacy of the piece. I thought everyone from Hull knew that The Land of Green Ginger was at the bottom of Whitefriargate, and that the George with the smallest window in (Hull, England, or was it the world) was on that street. Wonder what the sequel would be with the complete demise of the deep sea fishing industry and the buildiing of the Humber Bridge in the 1980s.
In the 70's I played in the Hull Sunday League for a team called J P Cornells (The music shop). Johnny Paterson (of The Aces fame) knew Alan Plater and recruited our team to do the background football shots at Pickering Park.
I haven't seen Johnny Pat for years, is he still around? A little JP performance........to make you cringe.
S***n G**y, S***n G**y, is it true, you are..............(fill in as required) You might want to buy a half time draw ticket???
Well done Shaun, it was great to watch this again. I worked just off Hessle Road and opposite the Wm Wright dock for 29 years and loved the people around there. This brought a lot back to me. Thank you again.
