His major flaw is that is useless at holding the ball up, something that I would have thought was not difficult to coach. He looks physically strong but is so easy to move off of the ball, twice in the first 10 minutes on Tuesday night he was easily dispossessed and that caused havoc in our defence, it might have been a different outcome had they scored first. You need your striker to hold the ball up and not have it coming straight back, it relieves the pressure on the defence and gives the midfield a chance to break forward.

For me unless he can be better coached in this area and an improvement seen, I would say let him go.

Agree, provided we replace his 15 goals , or thereabouts a season, because at present lose those and we are f***ed

It also may have been a different outcome Tuesday had he not scored 2 and assisted 1 ?

If a player does not have a good technical base as a youth they almost certainly will will not have one later.

He is not useless but could improve his foot patterns and receiving foot. They are arse about face making controlling the ball more difficult. He could also play more on the half turn and look less to make contact with opponents. Both former and latter mean he is frequently off balance.

Given the is the age he is, improving his touch significantly will be difficult to coach. He should have already done this for years prior to reaching the pro level.

Thankfully that wasn’t a risk we were willing to take.

I agree with everything that you say, but basically it's standing up and being stronger than the guy behind you, it's not rocket science, he has the physique but lacks the technique. I think part of the problem is in his head if he goes down he will more often than not win a free kick and sadly that will not happen very often, because he's unconvincing, going forward either he improves or we find an upgrade IMHO.

Holloway says Nigel Pearson is the man to take Bristol City up-
Ian Holloway's verdict on Barton and Pearson's arrivals at Bristol Rovers and Bristol City
City supporters can also relax in the knowledge that Nigel Pearson has the attributes required to take them into the Premier League.
He has been there and done it with Leicester City and I felt he was also doing a decent job turning things around at Watford when they decided to dispense with his services.
I know Nigel has only signed a short-term contract, but I sincerely hope he stays on beyond the end of the season. Like Joey, he is a winner by nature and I can understand why his appointment has proved popular with supporters.
Both our clubs have brought in men capable of helping them achieve their ambitions. Now let them manage without interference and give them time to make a significant difference.

Has the tool read the forums on Barton’s appointment? I’ve not read one saying they are glad they’ve got him on the sags board. CJS has said he ain’t going once they are allowed back in and refused to listen to the game the other night. And we all know he’s a die hard Gashead for all his sins.
Shows what interest Hollowhead actually takes in his old club.

I think the reason he's on a short contract is because he wanted to be a manager, not a coach.
That probably annoyed the crap out of the twat Ashton.
Compromises his position as the main man and egotists don't like to be challenged.

Just hope Ipswich are daft enough to employ him.
City will be well rid of Ashton.

Just wanted to put my point of view on fammy as a centre forward, I'm impressed by him to be honest.
i used to be a centre forward and holding the ball up is easier when your midfield is close enough to lay it off too.
If not then it makes you look like a bit of a twat.
Our midfield is good at running around and nullifying other teams but fairly poor at creating anything of any note
