Mark Hughes believes Bobby Zamora is arguably the best lone front-man in the Premier League. With the R's lining up in a flexible 4-5-1 formation on Saturday afternoon, Zamora led the line superbly in our 2-1 victory against Arsenal at Loftus Road. Speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk, the Rangers boss heaped praise on the former Fulham striker. "I would argue Bobby is the best in the Premier League in that lone striker role," "He is key to our play. He holds the ball up brilliantly and is so adept at bringing the ball down and bringing others into play. "He gave their centre-halves a torrid afternoon on Saturday. "He's a very experienced Premier League player and he understands how to affect the game. I thought he was excellent." *** If he keeps playing as well as he did on Saturday I think he's in with a decent shout of making the Euro 2012 squad. With Bent out injured there's not many other English players who play that role so well. Stuart Pearce was also at HQ to witness him dominate the Arsenal defense. ***
I don't think he's mobile enough for international football. If we go with one up front Pearce will more than likely go for one like Welbeck or Defoe who don't have the strength of Zamora but can get around the pitch a bit better.
I think he would do a good job to be fair. Him and Rooney if Bent is out with Welbeck and Defoe on the bench.
I'd certainly consider taking Holt if only to throw himself to the floor in the box in the 94th minute in our bid to avoid finishing last in the group against Ukraine.
Exactly I expect the fickle to be out Sunday around 5pm calling for a big improvement ... more than likely the subject will be we showed them far too much respect, why didn't we force the game ... blah blah blah
i forgot how much you guys hate good old Holty! Although its funny that this is squeaky clean Bobby Zamora we're talking about here!
Even Norwich fans acknowledge that Holt goes down quicker than Jodie Marsh. I'm not disputing he's done very well this season, and I honestly would take him in the squad as he's the best 'number 9' there is at the moment, which is a very sad reality.
It depends on how England are going to play. If they choose to adapt the game plan of a struggling team, desperate to avoid relegation, who play it long from the back and need someone to hold it up a bit so the ball doesnt come straight back, then Zamora is the man.
True his gamesmanship is a less respectable part of his game, but his better qualities outshine it. I was chuckling as this is the Zamora who faked receiving a head butt at Sunderland last week we're talking about. I seem to remember that sort of gamesmanship being condemned to the fullest degree around these parts!
I'll edit that. There wasn't much difference between the two incidents other than Barton had been kicked to pieces for half an hour beforehand. Zamora was rightly castigated as Johnson should have been but wasn't.
i cant speak for anyone else but my first post on this forum was suggesting Johnson should be punished.
Fair play to you then, but plenty of Norwich fans and far too many pundits buried their heads in the sand because it was Barton, football's answer to Ian Huntley.
Sparky is walking on a well trodden path where managers big up their players and say they should be in their respective international teams. He's never going to say "Bobby is half decent on a good day but I reckon he is about the 12th best striker in England" Zamora is a wiley old pro and knows what is expected of him but he looks knackered after 30mins of the first half and 20mins through the second. Full pace for 90mins is not what he is about but with the speed of the game in some (not all) international games he'd be the wrong choice. Better a couple of younger and quicker strikers than a traditional hold up player.
