Oh without a doubt. It would be ignorant to assume otherwise. I just thought that giving that example as if it were the norm was at best a bit odd.
Let's, of course, remind ourselves that sanction handed down to Terry by the FA was not on the grounds that he a racist, but that he used racially abusive language. In my mind, it is absolutely no defence to call a black person a "black c**t" on the basis that one isn't a racist. I don't know whether or not Terry is a racist. What I (and the FA) know is that he called a black player a "black c**t." Anyone who thinks that is acceptable, whether or not said in the heat of any particular moment, really ought to have a word with themselves.
Spot on. I've never been against Terry being charged for that reason, but am wholly against him being called a racist without proof
What I don't understand though is that nobody on the pitch came forward to say that they heard it. Surely with the amount of black players on the pitch that day, somebody would have come forward. Also, do you have evidence to say that he didn't say that?
When was this? And realistically he is on trial.... by the media. I walked into Tesco just half an hour ago to see every paper bar none (even semi-respectable papers like the Independent) label JT a racist. In life the biggest thing you have to lose is your reputation. If Terry used a racial slur in the heat of the moment (and that's if), it doesn't bother me. I'd be willing to bet half these upper/middle class journo's labelling JT a racist would not step foot in Brixton, Tottenham, Peckham etc nor have many/any black friends. We've all used racial slur's in our lives, not even 30/40 years ago you couldn't walk into certain public places if you were Black. Remember "No Blacks, No Dogs, No Irish". Who are we (the public) to damn a man that has used a racial slur once? The laughable thing is that most papers (tabloids) like the Daily Mail, The Sun etc are openly racist and xenophobic. Terry should be banned and then people should move on, it really is not as big a deal as people make out and before I'm accused of being racist or being Chelsea biased I myself am black and I've had this discussion with many family members some of whom are Arsenal and United fans whom hate Chelsea and JT with a passion, some of whom also don't even like football. It's embarrassing the likes of Jason Roberts, Stan Collymore, Clarke Carlisle etc using this thing to boost their own profile/agenda thinking they speak on behalf of all black people/footballers. I've gone off topic but rant over
Good post DL. because of 'the other high profile case' a similar stigma is now attached to another player despite mitigating evidence to show otherwise, you are correct about those who jump on the bandwagon to raise their profile and further the reputations.
I guess it depends how you define 'ok'. Is it abusive? Obviously, that's the intention. Is it offensive? That really depends on the nature of the person on the receiving end. Is it criminal? No. I'm Jewish and occasionally wear glasses. I'd be offended if someone called me a Jewish **** but not if they called me a four-eyed ****. Some would be offended by both, some by neither and most would probably feel the same way as me.
Sorry it was another member of the Chelsea staff Eto'o accused. The two bits you highlighted don't contradict eachother though, if that's what you were getting at.
Why not Drogs? If you look at how and where he was raised he would be the exception if he wasn't. I have lived in South America including Uruguay and they are,imo,2nd only to the Russians in their intolerance of other cultures and races. That is particularly the case in the lower classes from which Suarez comes. In Uruguay they actually refer to the lower class as the 'slum' class and they don't mean it affectionately. If they treat their own with such distain I think you can imagine how they treat others.
What evidence is that then? Oh wait, let me guess. You're trying to suggest that when Suarez in the heat of a passionate local derby to a player he clearly didn't like said negr(it)o he was using it in a jovial almost affectionate manner Even Suarez Mum wouldn't believe that load of bollocks. And you wonder why people laugh at you and your delusion.
I think Suarez is a scumbag on the pitch don't get me wrong, he contributes **** all good to the game of football due to his antics on the field, but I still don't think he is racist, I think he was trying to wind Evra up and some people may disagree with me and say that makes him a racist but for me it doesn't.
Like I say, with his background and upbringing it would be extremely surprising if he wasn't and there is certainly nothing he's suggested this far to indicate he's different.
