Newcastle United transfer target Yacine Brahimi has handed in a transfer request at his French club Rennes.

Newcastle have been checking all season on this 22 year-old, and maybe his transfer request is in line with Newcastle going in with a bid for the Frenchman.

Newcastle look to be in the lead to sign the player, who is an attacking midfielder, but German club Borussia Monchengladbach are also expected to bid for the player.

The 22-year-old Brahimi is of Algerian descent, and looks to be an exciting prospect, and the lad has played for the French U16, U17, U18, U19, U20 and U21 sides, and he has 7 caps at the U21 level.

Brahimi seems a gifted player, so we hope it’s true that Newcastle are in for this lad, and will attempt to bring him to Newcastle.

And for Brahimi’s part he says he wants a new challenge, and of course he would fit in well, with the growing French contingent Newcastle have at the club.

The 5’9″ tall Paris-born winger started his career at his home town club, PSG, and was there from 2004 through 2006, before he moved to Rennes in 2009, and over the last couple of seasons he has played 48 times for Rennes with 9 goals.

The 22 year-old had an opportunity to represent Algeria in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa two years ago, but he turned down the chance, in the hope he can play for the full France side, the country of his birth, in the future.

Arsenal and Real Madrid are also said to be keeping tabs on this top youngster, who only turned 22 in February.

We really hope that Newcastle can get this player through the door, and as soon as possible.

Thought it would be worth pointing out he was at Clairefontaine at the same time as Obertan, so that might be a draw (or a push).

 

We already signed Amalfitano to replace Guthrie, well that's what I assumed anyways

 

He's more attacking, more like cover for Cabaye in our 4-2-1-3.

Real are interested in him so he wont come here to sit on the bench.

 

Haven't seen him but he is the type we'd go for. We do need some depth.

 

This guy seems every bit as attacking if not more though
