If this were his first offence, i would try and defend him, saying it's a heat of the moment act of madness. If it were his second offence, i'd be a little more sceptical, but this is the 3rd time he's done this, he clearly hasn't learnt his lesson and there is visual proof he did it (Chiellini's shoulder).

I don't want to sound rash or anything, but surely a permanent ban must be considered?

what Suarez has done is disgusting for the 3rd time biting some one on the pitch and at the biggest stage of em all i am truly very angry i think this guy should get a very long ban from all football he has committed assault on the pitch for the 3rd time been racist and is still allowed to pay if i was in charge of FIFA i would give him a global ban of at least 6 months and throw some community service in there of him telling kids what he done was wrong. He is a bad influence on kids every where i could only imagine the impact of one of my favourite players biting people growing up if some one like Henry was to do that when i was younger i would most probably think its right to do the same i hope FIFA act on this i am disgusted. I am happy we never got him and i would rather us end up trophy less then win the league with him

Suarez really has gone too far this time. I think he should be banned from the game for a season. You simply cannot go around biting people, it's completely unacceptable.

    Who bans him, FIFA ?
And from what, International games ?

Absolutely no chance will there be any domestic ban, Liverpool will defend the thug and throw every legal argument they can if the FA tried banning him, we all saw their defence of him during the race row and they pay his wages.

So very probably another case of club ruling country....

I'm sure FIFA could ban him from football in the PL being that they are the world governing body.Liverpool are governed by the FA & the FA are governed by FIFA

Fifa obviously want to keep the best players in their tournament but other than claiming it's inconclusive what he did, which would be ridiculous, I don't see how they can get out of banning him.

Only an international ban though, they wouldn't give a complete football ban unless it was like a cantona kick on a fan or something

I'm not sure, but if he was guilty of a drug related offence then they could ban him from all competitions. I think all professional player registrations are ultimately with FIFA, so effectively they have the final say on whether a player is permitted to play.

Whether they would choose to enforce this is a different matter. In any case, I suspect his World Cup is over.

Edit: Several news organizations are reporting that FIFA have a rule on their books that would allow them to ban a player from football for up to two years.

I hope you're right, something tells me you could well be but surely Liverpool will appeal, fight and drag the thing through the courts if he's banned heavily.
What sort of punishment fits ?
Confirmed racist, now three times biting an opponent on a football pitch, 6 months ?

If Suarez is banned from football, then he can always make a career for himself in the Movies
