My late father-in-law served throughout World War 2 in North Africa, and came home unscathed apart from memories/experiences that he never spoke about.... In contrast, D-Day was the first (and last) day of action for a cousin of his - his cousin stood on a land mine and had a foot blown off. Compared to some, he was ‘lucky’..... Lest we forget
