    At least they cannot lose to Germany on penalties...

    I was not promoting women’s football, just women’s sport generally. Personally I think that men’s Rugby Union is dull as dishwater but clearly my view is not that of the many followers of the game who make it commercially viable. If women’s football becomes commercially viable and starts generating revenue for the FA, the money they put into the game will not looked squandered but enlightened.

    Sixty years ago, men would go to work Monday to Friday, work on Saturday morning then go to the football ground, put on their boots and play football at 3 o’clock for £50. Today’s footballers would not get out of bed for £50 and they get millions for doing nothing but play a couple of games a week.

    That's why I never became a professional footballer. When I was young only people who weren't clever enough to do anything else took up football as a career
