The thing is our clubs would benefit from a winter break . It's very short sighted to say otherwise based on one years European success.

We have a winter break every season - it's called the 4th round of the FA Cup...

No need for winter break. Squads are large enough to enable a season to be played without requiring a winter break to rest players.

In any event the PL clubs will just use the break for money spinning tours to “keep fit” and avoid players getting “rusty”.

We always seem to take half a season to get going. A winter break would be a disaster for us.

What has the winter break got to do with European finals though? I'm pretty sure for most it relates to assisting England in major tournaments. I believe it would based on my time watching our sides over the last 40 years. Too often in the modern game we arrive with key players with too many miles on the clock carrying knocks or just not fresh enough to do themselves justice. Rest for footballers is good for performance. However it is not the overall deciding factor if you do well. Just one of the many peripheral moving parts.

Anyway the only way I'd want one is if there were strict rules governing the playing of friendlies. In particular clubs should not be allowed to use any English player for any friendly agreed in the winter break period. So if they want to go to Dubai, America or China, they can. However the English boys remain at home with their feet up doing only light maintenance. Everyone is happy.
