BRISTOL CITY: Steve Cotterill sees a window of opportunity to make signings. STEVE Cotterill believes Bristol City are now entering what he describes as "the window of opportunity" in their quest to sign new players. Eager to add to a squad that remains painfully thin on the ground, City's manager has less than 48 hours in which to complete any permanent signings ahead of tomorrow's 6pm transfer deadline. But Cotterill, who is shopping for a striker and a defender, insists market forces may finally begin to work in City's favour at the end of a summer in which they have failed to land many of their main targets. Cotterill feels selling clubs, desperate to offload unwanted players, may be forced to drop their asking price as the deadline looms. And if he is unable to bolster his squad by the end of business tomorrow, he is confident he can do so when the window for emergency loan signings reopens next week. He said: "We are now in that part of the window where we don't want to take any chances or make a mistake. But I actually think our window opens when this one closes. "By that, I mean the window of opportunity. Everybody at this moment in time is scrambling after players and we are not at the top of that tree. "When some of those players don't get the moves they expect, want or need, then we may come into play late on Tuesday or in a week's time when the (loan) window opens. That could be our window of opportunity. Certainly, that is the positive spin I keep putting on it for myself." Speaking in the aftermath of Saturday's 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Burnley, Cotterill confirmed his intention to try to recruit a striker and a defender. But finance is an issue and the price would have to come down for City's manager to land his latest target. He said: "There is one transfer – a striker – that would be good for us. Whether that materialises will be down to cost. "At this moment in time, it is a transfer that is too expensive for us. Whether that price comes down by Monday or Tuesday morning, then I will still be on it to see if I can turn it into a loan. "It has been well documented that I want four strikers in the club. Whether that one will drop, I'm not sure. "If he doesn't go anywhere else, then he could be available for loan. I don't want anyone getting their hopes up, but that is what I've been trying to do over the past four or five days." Cotterill is looking to strengthen at the other end of the pitch and is hoping to bring in another defender in the next 72 hours. He added: "There could also be defender we could bring in on loan and that one has been ongoing for a little while now. That could potentially happen by Tuesday. If not, the window of opportunity will open a week later. "That defender is one who would be able to come in and play in our system. But you are always in the hands of the parent club when you talk about loan players." a_Stockhausen http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/BRISTO...-sees-window/story-27704998-detail/story.html
