Wilshere has said he would like to be captain for Arsenal and England in his career. Do you think this is a good idea and when should it happen?

TV is a great example of a player who crumbles with the extra burden whereas the pre-injury Ramsey is a great example of a player who thrived on being the captain of Wales. Arteta is another on who has got on with it quietly recently and the results tell a story there.

Its a difficult question on end of season form to say who should be dropped if we strengthen and who should be made captain. What do you think?

Dont care, really think it should go to the oldest player on the pitch. It is the most meaningless position in football.

How is it meaningless? A good captain can make a difference. Look at us for example. No organisation or belief with Verm as captain, but a totally different animal with Arteta as captain.

The captain has no responsibility in football, it is not like cricket where he picks the teams or makes the decisions, hell its not even like Rugby where the Captain speaks to the ref. It is a purely ceremonial position. Italy give it to the players with the most caps every game they seem to do ok. In fact in this case it hurt us because TV was dropped a lot later then he was probably because of the armband. Plus we have not been brilliant because of Artetas leadership it is because the entire team (especially the defence) sat down and looked at their mistakes and decided to make changes after the Spurs game. It had nothing to do with Arteta getting the armband because he makes none of the tactical decisons that is the manager.

If a player is vocal ala Wilshere, Adams or leads by example Viera or Fab the armband makes no difference I would expect them to do it anyway, the armband is an irrelevancy.

Kind of agree with Vela here, I'm not sure it really makes that much difference who gets the armband to be honest. As he said, if you've got strong vocal players who rally the others, they will do it anyway, regardless of who is wearing the armband. So it is largely symbolic. That said, I think Wilshere would make a ideal captain at some point in his career as he is a vocal player and one who can lead the team.
