I remember we had a discussion about this at the start of the transfer window, but I was reminded of it when I was doing the graphics for the Leicester match thread. We're into the competitive games now, and Pelts is still the captain. Has McDermott been waiting for Austin to be fit? Is he waiting to sign a new player who he thinks will be a captain? Waiting to see if we don't get Mills to give it to one of our existing CBs? Or is he just letting Pelts keep it until Byram is back and Peltier will lose his regular place in the first team?
If he's not mentioned the captaincy you can be sure that Pelts knows he is doing it temorary. Looks like the player he wants is also going to skip the club. Just had a few quid on it not being Hall
This is interesting. I think he was thinking of getting Mills in and he'd be the obvious choice as I don't think we have a particular stand out option. If we don't get Mills in, I think he will choose Green, Murphy or McCormack. Experience wise I'd probably say Green, but I don't know how much of a presence he has in the dressing room. McCormack may be better for that, seems more passionate about the cause. I went for Murphy. Plays in the middle, will be picked week in week out and has shown he can step up to the role as he's previously held the armband at Crewe. Although young, we can build a team round him for many years to come. Austin I don't feel is captain material. I think he is still settling into life in the country (I could be wrong!). Peltier is surely a stop gap.
I don't want to saddle Murphy with this impossible-to-live-up-to tag , but he has at least one attribute of Bremner, he drives forwards and drives the team forwards. But I'm not sure I'd rush to give the captaincy to him, make sure he is settled first
Good point on Murphy's style of play, but young 'un Mowatt is going to be our new Bremner once he breaks through.
I don't think Pelts will retain the captaincy. In BMD's latest interview he was talking about it as if he hasn't picked a permanent captain yet and I think if it was Pelts then he woulda already come out and said that. Personally, I think it is going to be a new signing. If we don't sign anyone of captain material then I think he'll probably give it to Ross, he is one of the first names on the team sheet, has publicy expressed his desire to stay at Leeds and earn promotion with us, gives 100% effort when he is on the pitch and is also an important part of the side. I wouldn't say Peltier is any of that to be honest but it is hard to say who it is going to be though because you don't really know how they behave in the dressing room.
I think Peltier will be captain until we either sign a player that McD wants to be captain or until the end of the transfer window when he names a different captain in the current squad
