Wigan v Bristol City Wigan v Bristol City preview: please log in to view this image Match facts Wigan will assess the fitness of winger Callum McManaman ahead of the visit of Bristol City in the Sky Bet Championship. The former England Under-21 international was forced to withdraw late from the squad for Tuesday's victory over Hull after suffering a knock. Manager Paul Cook has suggested changes are likely due to the short turnaround before Friday's encounter. Forward Gavin Massey (hamstring) remains on the sidelines but defender Dan Burn (foot) is nearing a return. The Robins could still have a doubt over defender Eros Pisano. The Italian, who missed the last three games, has been out with a hip injury and will continue to be assessed. Goalkeeper Frank Fielding remains on the sidelines along with captain Bailey Wright, forward Mo Eisa and midfielders Korey Smith and Hakeeb Adelakun. Famara Diedhiou could be pushing for a start after scoring off the bench in the midweek loss to West Brom. Opta stats Wigan lost both of their Championship meetings with Bristol City during 2016-17, the last season in which they met. In 12 away league visits to Wigan, Bristol City have won more often (5) than they've lost (3), with four draws. Wigan boss Paul Cook lost both of his league meetings with Bristol City in the 2014-15 season with Chesterfield in League One. Wigan and Bristol City have only met on a Friday once previously - Wigan won 1-0 in January 2003 under manager Paul Jewell in a third tier clash. Wigan striker James Vaughan scored a hat-trick in his last league start against Bristol City, doing so for Huddersfield Town in April 2013. Since the start of the 2017-18 season, this will be Bristol City's seventh league match on a Friday - more than any other side in the top four tiers of English football; they drew four of their six last season (W1 D1). Prutton's prediction Wigan's form at the DW Stadium has been pretty much top notch this season, and even after getting pegged back by Hull on Tuesday night they never really looked like they were going to throw away the win. Bristol City's fine run came to a shuddering halt at West Brom. They gave it a real go at The Hawthorns and just came unstuck in the first half due to the brilliance of the Baggies frontline. That will happen to a few sides this season. Both sides will attack this one and I fancy an entertaining draw. David Prutton predicts: 2-2 with Andreas Weimann to score first.
This game is a proverbial banana skin type fixture and although I expect us win it concerns me that it comes too soon after our loss at WBA. Surely the scheduling bunch must know the errors in their ways but the players get paid good money to overcome such minor obstacles. So just win lads.

"WE'RE NOT SILLY, WE KNOW BRISTOL CITY ARE VERY STRONG." - PAUL COOK https://www.wiganathletic.com/news/...ow-bristol-city-are-very-strong.---paul-cook/
You expect us to win? That's confident. Wigan are 1pt behind us with 10pts out of a possible 12 at home. This isn't an easy fixture at all.
Tough game this - Wigan have been strong. I do think we stand a good chance though; despite shipping 4 on Tuesday, we looked dangerous going forwards. A win would be quite the statement.

Tough one to call. Could go either way. As long as the loss didn’t dent our confidence I think we could get something out of this, would settle for a draw, on our day could snatch all three points.
Reading comments on a forum of theirs, seems as though they have quite a few injury doubts/niggles/fatigue, so could be a good time to play them. If they are a bit of a patchwork side then it'll be interesting to see how they approach the game. I imagine the liklihood of them being happy to contain us and hit on the counter is quite high which would be a test.

Agree, it’s been a weakness of ours for a while, we don’t cope well with teams that sit in and counter at speed. Let’s hope they decide not to take this approach as they are the home team.
Cancelling each other out , should hopefully be able to take advantage of being able to rotate our players for better energy as game progresses. Garnet should have had a red card near the end of the first half.
I just had the misfortune to watch the second half at Wigan and came away somewhat concerned about how we performed. There were weaknesses all across the pitch and our punch up front is non existent and if that is all we have to offer I can’t see us contending in any way this season even though it is still very early in the campaign. If we should have injuries and suspensions down the line, and we will, we could be hanging on for our lives. If you truly want to challenge then you need to be way better than what I saw tonight.
Have to be honest after watching that, can't sugar coat it...........yes against a very good organised Wigan defence...........we were bloody DREADFUL......
Very honest assessment by LJ tonight. We didn't start to play until we were behind. Thought we were very leggy. Neither keeper really tested. Need to move on and be better next few games.
