Looks like we're in for Wickham from Ipswich, this following the news that we are after Henderson and Jones...

Also news circulating that we may move for N'Zogbia if Young commits to Utd...

If these come off, I'll be a happy man....as long as we nail down a decent LB....oh, and throw in the odd £30m+ marquee signing :emoticon-0103-cool:

Slur Alex will be so confused; which one of our transfer targets should he sign??

    Sooner they sign the better!

    Welcome to the forum!

I would quite like Wickham at Liverpool. He's a young, English player which would fit the strategy of the club now. I also believe he has the potential to be a crackin player. If we can get him, i'd say get him!

I don't know too much about Wickham, what is his style on play? I think with Kuyt, Carroll and Suarez the only thing we are missing is a tap in merchant. I would personally like to see us try and go for Daniel Sturridge, I think he has proven himself and is young and English.

Sturridge would cost a bomb considering what he's done this season! I imagine he'll go back to Chelsea and become a backup striker for Torres.

I would hold off on buying any more strikers, especially with Pacheco coming back from an impressive loan spell and Morgan banging in goals for the reserves. Carroll, Kuyt and Suarez can hold the line perfectly in terms of strikers.

I haven't seen too much of Wickham, but from what I've heard he's a young striker with a not very impressive goal scoring record considering he's playing in the Championship. Saying that, he's probably better than Ngog.

Sturridge would cost a bomb as Chelsea will want payback from us robbing them blind for Torres. Wickham is a big lad and also a Liverpool fan. I think he'd make great cover for Carroll in the league and a partnership of Carroll and him on European nights in far flung places would lead to us walking over teams

Welcome to the site you two newbies.

As for Wickham, to be honest I know nothing about him, never seen him play. Know little about Jones either.

As has been said, they can't be worse than N'Terrible. Anyone know how much Wickham would cost (roughly)

Think of Wickham as a more mobile version of Andy Carroll. good feet, great in the air, good engine, quick for a big lad.

There's mention on TalkShite this morning that Wickham may be coming in for £8m - seems like a load of dosh to me, but like most people on this thread, I'm not really got any evidence of his talent. IMHO I still think N'Zogbia has got to be a good buy, given his performances across the season.... GKRK

Have several ITFC friends and they rate him highly. I did watch him play earlier this year at Portman Road and he is a big lump for a teenager....and he certainly looked like he'll make the step up into the PL, although unsure at what level

If Liverpool do manage to sign Henderson, Jones and Wickham, it will be a huge step in the right direction

I was impressed with Wickham against Arsenal even in the match that Ipswich lost - He surprisingly did well on the flank for such a tall guy! Plus 10mil seems a lot more appealing than the 15mil figure that was flying about.

My only concern is that he is, in general, too similar to Carroll. I'm more on an advocate for having a variety of different kinds of strikers

by the way, if we do bring N'zogbia in, do you think he would play predominantly as a winger or as a left back?

    Ipswich fan in peace!

Wickham, although not yet the finished product and is nowhere near getting into your team (at the moment) is probably the English player with the most potential at the moment! He has only just turned 18 remember, and he is already playing in England U21's :)

However, unfortunately, I think 8mill is not enough to persuade our board to accept. We had an offer from Tottenham last year for around that price, as we apparently rejected it. It is the general consensus that our board will let him go for between 10-15mill. (Allegedly he has a clause in his contract which will allow him to talk to other clubs for ~12mill) But you face stiff competition from Tottenham, Arsenal, Newcastle and Man U for his signature! All have been linked recently!

Obviously he is not currently worth that kind of price in terms of footballing ability, but in terms of potential...
Stuart Pearce seems to be a massive fan, and is almost certainly a future England international! He is more talented (seemingly) at the moment than Darren Bent when he was with us, and look how he is doing now!

He would be a fantastic buy, but you wont get him for 8mill.

The last report I read is that Ipswich are holding out for £10 million.
    If we managed to land.
    Young.
    Downing.
    Henderson.
    Wickham
Jones.(Who also can play left back)
We wouldn't be fighting it out for top four,we'd have a formidable squad that could aim even higher.

I don't think we would. We need a specialised left back, for too long we've been relying on players to play out of position at LB and we need someone who can run that flank and has done so for years.

Wickham would be a reserve signing to begin with, and with the players we've got in the reserves etc... I think it'd be stupid to spend 10m on him just so he can battle for a spot that Morgan will take in a few years.

I don't rate Downing that much to be honest, I'd much rather Albrighton than Downing.

Henderson isn't the marquee signing I would hope for - we have plenty of midfielders, so whilst I think he's a good player I'd much prefer we went for some higher quality players.

Young/N'zog to play on the right,
Mata/Hazard to play on the left,
    Baines/Izaquirre to play LB,
    Banega/Honda to play HM

This is what I would class as a successful summer, If we got first choice on those 4 options I'd say it's set us back 70m. With player signings and a decent investment that should be easily reached.

Kenny seems to like him and from what I heard he can play wide right too.I heard a rumour that Liverpool want the deal for Henderson tied up by Wednesday. Some reports suggest that Sunderland won't sell at any price, while others are suggesting that if Liverpool were to offer £16 million then he's ours.
He fits into the overall FSG blue-print given his age.So does Phil Jones, who for his age is actually a very good defender who I actually believe is better than Gary Cahill and being left footed would fit in perfectly.

Honda could never play holding midfield. He plays as a second striker quite often for Japan, and attacking midfield for CSKA.

He plays as a deep lying playmaker also. Also, Lucas was an attacking mid for Gremio.

I've got a feeling if we went for him though we'd play him on a wing or just off the front.

Why are all english players so expensive - i know the home grown quota affects it but the money being asked for unproven players is ridiculous
