How about we organise a fight? King vs Henderson. The winner is offered the "Most Disgraced Past Watford FC Employee" trophy. The loser is donated to medical research. On paper, Marlon may fancy himself as the victor, what with Henderson being affectionately referred to under a female name. But, I'd have my money on Henderson.
On footballing abilites I'd have King back over Henderson As 'influential' and senior players on the training ground, I'd have neither!
All the smart money would be on Hendo, because despite being called Doris he isn't one and Marlon only hits women...
IIRC he does other stuff too - and if he tried any of that on Doris, I suspect King would end up a Queen.
What we need is a bit of pace especially if Marv goes, Someone who isnt at the end of their career, someone who has started to find the net regularly! If were not going to promote from within ,then Theo Robinson anyone!
I would understand that Obviously wouldn't choose someone like that for the sake of it, but he's a footballer and I'm a football fan so, if he could help my club out I'd take it.
I would suggest that Graham French is among the leading candidates for the "Most Disgraced Past Watford FC Employee" trophy. Taken from Wikipedia: "French led a life off the pitch atypical of a professional sportsman, often starting games worse for wear as his sessions at the local pubs were common knowledge..... A shooting incident in a pub in 1970 resulted in him serving a three-year prison sentence. Luton Town gave him the chance to return on his release, but prison life had taken its toll on French, and he was unable to regain his place in the team...."
But he was playing for the dirty ones when he shot a fellow criminal in a pub in bandit central...he was just a social drinker when he played for us, along with quite a few others in them days. "He's up, he's down He's in The Rose & Crown Rodney Green, Rodney Green"
Not that he played that many times for us - just a handful IIRC - but in terms of skill was almost up to Scully Standard. Shame he was such an arse. The terms 'social drinker' and footballer always makes me think of Bert Slater who had his own spot at the supporters club bar - a true 'lovely geezer' to use the Millwall vernacular.
The award is for "The Most Disgraced Past Watford FC Employee" - so surely French qualifies - whenever he started shooting?
Think both of these guys are in our past , we need to focus on present and future times History and the past are useful learning tools, lets hope we have!
You are quite correct when you say history is a useful learning tool - it puts our current position into perspective. Whilst focusing on "present and future times" is important, it's still great for us old 'uns to remember characters, matches and events from the past, especially over a pint or three....... In 40 or so years time, folks will be reminiscing over Marlon, Aidy, Malky, Marvin, Loachy etc. using whatever media will be available in 2050 (maybe direct cranial processor implants using Intel i50 chips or grow your own versions).
