Who am I?

Named after my famous godfather, I was born in London during the mid 1800s
I spent over 30 years in the British Army and wrote popular books about the experience
Many considered me to a be a fascist due to my admiration of both Hitler and Mussolini
I moved to Africa in my later years and died there during WW2

I was born in California during the WW1 years
I volunteered for the US Air Force during WW2 and helped transport British troops in 1944
As a child star I earned millions, yet my mother squandered the cash, so I sued her
My charity drive raised more than $1 million for victims of the Armenian Genocide

An only child, I was born within the Russian Empire during the late 1800s
I gave up the priesthood for poetry, work as a clerk and political activism
I loved cowboy films and billiards, and my personal library numbered more than 20,000 books
The hut in which I was born is a popular tourist attraction, and the museum of my life concludes with a copy of my death mask

The postage stamp thing was just one of the daft things I knew, at least I knew Baden-Powell and Stalin were on them

 

You were like a rat up a drainpipe. Thought this would be a long one. Got the first one then read a bit about Harold Harmsworth and come back and you've skelped it out the park.
