Martin Kuhl letf us at the start of April last year this is what we've done sine, P 36 W 9 D 10 L 17 F 47 A 60 It shows who really got us up and who may of kept us up. If Waddock went who would we like to see come in?!
I don't think it has anything to do with Kuhl. We are in a higher division with players that are not good enough. If Kuhl was so great why is he not managing or coaching at a decent level now?! The in game use of subs (or lack of use) and inability to change tactic was there last season as well. League 2 being so bad masked what an average team we were last year.
I don't believe all the blame can be put on Waddock, that is unfair. However Kuhl did play such a vital role. Him and Gary Waddock arrived as a package, take one away and it doesn't work. Waddock & Kuhl complemented each other, Waddock - A genuinely nice bloke, good manager but not very animated. Kuhl - Animated, would be on the touchline instructing players throughout - shouting at them if he wasn't liking what he saw, wasn't afraid to express his opinion, and was able to influence Waddock on certain decisions if he thought he was making the wrong one. I don't like saying it but I believe Waddock will leave the club at the end of the season and I would put money on him & Kuhl teaming up and finding a new club. Its just our luck that a partnership which was obviously successful was ruined by a moment of madness.
I don't think any of us are necessarily saying that all the blame lays with Waddock, the players have to show a bit of pride. However, the fact that we have a squad that is not good enough for this division is largely down to him and the poor quality of signings brought in. Yes, I am sure we have a relatively small budget but I am sure Bury,Stevenage, Oldham and Tranmere do but they are doing ok. We can moan about players being rubbish but ultimately who brought them to the club or who made the decision to offer them contract extensions, that would be the manager. Waddock does appear to be a genuinely nice bloke and isn't very animated but unfortunately I can't think of many nice blokes who are top managers and quite reserved. Nothing he ever says is inspiring and the one time he ripped into his players in the press, after the Bournemouth game, he failed to follow up his threats by naming 9 of the same players in the team against Huddersfield. Interestingly after Kuhl left last season we didnt lose a game, winning 3 and drawing 3. I think the stats above are heavily distorted by the fact we are in a higher division. How would things have really been if Kuhl would have still been here, considering the altercation was with Donnelly who clearly Waddock rates as he re-signed him on loan?
i think kuhl played a part, he seemed to be the roughness, whereas waddock strikes me as a really <perhaps too> nice a person. i think we went wrong because we went up 3rd (debatably undeservadly) and over the summer did'nt sign a single player good enough. on the way, we have let go betsy, montrose, westwood and pittman plus ainsworth has just struggled this year. this is what will relegate us unless we have a very busy last couple of days
