Do you ever become or are you ever yourself? If we are a constant dynamic force changing all our lives can we ever be classed as being ourselves. There are so many external influences such as growth, puberty, decay and death when are we actually us. In addition, we allow ourselves to be totally manipulated by thr media eg we follow a football team because we were born clost to where they play. Therefore, if we had been born in the usa we would be following a baseball/rounders team in all probability. There are of course exceptions to this the Newcastle fans in East Durham who support the mags because sky sports told them they had to in 1992. However, I digress from the main point ' Who are we'? If you add this to the fact that we don't even know where the universe is we don't know who we are or even where we are. Who are ya? Where are ya?
I was born in Blyth but support Sunderland, and its not the media that told everyone to support them, its the fact they were a pretty good team back then, The Entertainers, CL football, 4-3 games, lots of goals for and against, Sunderland have had **** all of that in recent history. If you are good you will get support, if you are not you wont on the same level. Nothing to do with the media.
Apparently we replace all the cells in our bodies about seven times in a lifetime. That means there are some of us who saw SAFC beat the mags (Quinny & Phillips) and the body they were in doesn't now exist as it has been replaced. It also means that if anybody tells you they saw the '73 cup final or the 4-4 Charlton game then they are telling porkies because their complete bodies have been replaced several times. The body they were in during those games is now scattered all over the world although some bits may still be in carpets and the like if they don't clean their homes thoroughly. Bloody Hell!
I disagree, thousands of people in east Durham have been duped into supporting the mags imo. However, so be it as it is all bollox at the end of the day, obviously, to be fair.
Not sure how its being duped. kevin Costner in the Field of dreams says "if you build it they will come" which is great, but if you are ****e for decades, and another team in close proximity of you is going great guns then young ones will go to the one that is playing the better football. My best mate, his dad didnt like football, when he was 4 he watched Sunderland Vs Man United live on the TV (this is going back 30+ years) Man U hammered us 1-4 from that day on he became a Man U fan, if we had won, we would have had another supporter, but alas, we were ****e so we lost one (and one of many probably). This they are sheep, its the medias fault is a load of crap im afraid.
I am my mother and fathers son, my brother and sisters brother and I have no qualms over my identity. I am always me, even when I'm lying or pretending to be happy about something when I'm not. I'm just me lying or me pretending to be something I'm not.
Sorry,, Nee more Gobblyedgoook Some is fun, but this one is ****e................. Do something better or original........... ps i like ta random posts, but come on, try one a little bit closer to the mark.
I thing what NMG is on about is that we all have numerous ways we portray our personalities/identities to suit the occasion or the people we are with. An example being that I'm normally a calm and rational person, but when it comes to derby day I turn into a bloody mad man full of pent up aggression..
NMG - deep thinking like this can be dangerous - a dear friend of mine (who was working on a time machine at the time{or I think it was that time}) once delved into this type of analysis and concentrated so deply that he dissapeared up his own ar***ole - now whenever I walk past his house there is an eeirie echo of "Shearer is a w***er he wears a w***ers hat etc" - don't go there it can screw with your mind
I live in East Durham, and although my father and his father before him supported Newcastle, and the fact that I have been following them for over 40 years, queuing up overnight for FA cup tickets in the 70's several times, having seen Newcastle in Europe and been to over 50 grounds in England, and having shed blood and tears for them, I now realise that due to my location, which you have so rightly pointed out, that I have no right to follow Newcastle at all and I will switch my allegiance forthwith.
