We all know that these are probably our most gifted midfielders but they haven't been at their top form for a while now so what's happened? Whelpdale doesn't look interested and Lee is just a yellow and then red card waiting to happen. Under Hessenthaler they arguably played to their best. Whelps scored 12 goals that season and Lee regurlarly played to his best (albeit he spent a lot of games suspended from the 16 yellows he got). So what did Hess have that managed to get the best out of them? I'm not saying Hess should be manager now as he was technically flawed but he got form out of these players that MA got occassionally and Taylor definitely hasn't had even a sniff of. It can't be the long ball technique as we deployed that under MA. Its not the new passing style that Taylor is trying to adopt as these two have now gone completely missing. For Lee its obvious that he wants to play like Hessenthaler, he's previously said that if he could have the career that Hess did, he would be happy. That still doesn't acquaint for Whelps though.

    Thoughts guys?

It would help if we stopped Whelpdale on the wing, he simply has not got the pace to be a winger in my opinion, he would be much better suited playing in the central attacking midfield role, he's definitely a player who has got the ability to drive at a back four. As for Lee, I think he's been poor since he got put on the transfer list oddly enough, he started off the season and everyone was raving about him. Lee would not be in my starting eleven at the moment, I honestly can't see where he'd fit in. This is the midfield I'd play Saturday:
    Mousinho, Hollands, Whelpdale, Dack.

It must be me, i think Lee and Whelpdale remain 2 of our best players although as already discussed Whelpdale is regularly played out of position. Lee is crap at right back!!!

I think Whelps is still one of our best and continues to be a threat whenever he is in the team. Lee on the other hand has had a bit of a shocker over the last 12 months. I dont think even he knows is best position and unless you are very very good there is no place for a utility type of player anymore

Well I don't really get why Lee has been playing wide as he is definitely not a winger. I prefer Whelpdale on the right but he keeps drifting into the middle as if thats where he wants to play more. Its a shame really because he's probably our best crosser of the ball.

Feel Charlie Lee and to a less extent Whelps, are victims of their own success. In their first few seasons they were exceptional and single handedly (or double handed because there were two of them?) turned around hessy's first season back. This year I do agree Lee has been a little disappointing but after being such an integral part of the squad, being told your no longer wanted must be a real shock and affect your performance especially after he was on the verge of joining Southend. Hopefully Peter Taylor can calm them both down and start playing them in ways that will get them back to there best. Two of our best players in recent memory and feel this will be nothing more than a blip!

I would get rid of both. Neither seem to be bothered when wearing the shirt and are probably on big money. I don't buy the being played out of position nonsense, you still need to try
