Despite the optimism when he was signed, in some minds, Danny Fox has so far failed to impress.

    Why?

Alternatively; do you think he's doing alright? Is it the team that are not supporting him? Or has he been just plain good for us so far?

Eloquently put. If there is a problem with Fox it might be that he is aware that Dan Harding is coming back to fitness, and given that Dan started the season so well this is going to put him under pressure. He's a good player, get off his back. As for being homesick, he's from Winsford. Ever been to Winsford? Homesick, I doubt!

Goodness me, I don't need to get a grip, i'm not on his back and i'm not having a go at him in anyway.

I fully appreciate players find it tough moving to a new club. I just wondered what people's thoughts were on why he was struggling that was all.

I didn't think for one minute that people would get upset by this thread but I guess you learn something new everyday.

Looks to me like you've made your mind up and our minds up as well that he's struggling.

He appears to be doing alright to me. Lovely cross for Spiderman to score at Burnley.

If anything, I'd say that Lallana hasn't been tracking back that much in recent games, leaving whoever the left back is, exposed.

A lot of people are sensitive about this sort of post, and you have to accept that there was no scope in your poll to answer "he isn't struggling". CBK's point about Lallana is an interesting and controversial point.

Cheers, i've taken that onboard - I can't add another poll answer but i've added more points in the thread and hopefully prompted a fairer discussion.

He's played well enough for me. And Lallana hasn't been on fire recently, which is a shame because he can win games by himself. Given a bit of time I'm sure Fox will become an important part of the team.

His passing has been a bit off recently but as a team we havent played great in the last 2 matches. As someone said above, Lallana isn't great defensively. I think they don't have the partnetship Lallana and Harding have though.

Sometimes it's tricky to impress when you are a left back. Another thing that he's added is a left footed free kick alternative.

I too don't understand the criticism. Going forward, he looks very good. Defensively (and this is the important thing, considering his position), it's just too early to tell in book. I've only seen him twice - how on earth can I make a judegment on that.

Poor defending usually stems from not doing something (eg not marking, not following a runner), rather than doing something, and you can only judge this with your own eyes. And two games just isn't enough.

Right now, I've got no issues with hin. That may or may not change. Take Harding for example - I didn't have any problems with him when we first signed him. I reckon it took me a good six months to really work out how much of a liability he is defensively. It's a lot easier to judge forward players, as you can see them giving the ball away, missing the target, straying off-side, crossing out of play etc. But two or three really is not enough to judge someone like Fox.

That is a problem, Lallana not tracking back, which is why I feel he needs to play in the 'hole' behind Rickie, where he doesn't have to do as much defensive work, where I feel his stamina could be wasted during games. Fox is fine I think, everybody needs time to adjust to a new club, and his left foot can be instrumental in games. The thing is, we have Fox/Harding/Dickson who are all accomplished left backs, and who could all do a job for us if needed, that is a problem many teams would love to have.

Hasn't impressed me, going forward he is good but defensively he is caught out of position TOO much

Harding started the season superbly, I think we should recall him when fit

It's not a huge issue for me. It's plainly obvious that this is the case (although I do feel that some people refuse to take off their rose-tinited glasses when it comes to Lallana, and ignore this), but the chances we create and goals we score make up for it in my opinion. I don't think we'd be as potent an attacking force if we dropped Connolly in favour of Fox or Dickson or Holmes playing LM.

However, were we to get promoted, then it becomes a major issue. You're not going to get anywhere in the top flight if you're leaving one (or both) full backs exposed.

I think hes a good player. People have just been watching him like a hawk for any mistake to try to assess how good he is. Im sure if you watched Fonte or Hooiveld (good example against Cardiff) youd find he would make mistakes every now and again aswell. They all make the odd mistake, its just that everyone seems to be picking up on Fox's because hes a new player trying to prove himself.

He is demon at putting the ball in the box, and will get alot of assists for us this season. First choice over Harding imo.

I think your spot on. I don't know why everyone has to slate Fox. I thought he had been playing really well personally.
