Just had a thought, but what would happen if we were :

    -to finish fourth.
-for everton , liverpool, spurs to win the europa league Or
for arsenal/chelsea/man city to finish outside of the top four but win the champions league.
    -or all of the above,

Would we still get Champions League ?

We would not get CL if Arsenal won the CL and finished outside the top 4. Not sure about Everton/Liverpool/Spurs wining the Europa League. I suspect we wouldn't get in the CL either.

Should we concentrate on winning the FA Cup instead?

Obviously it would be very harsh if it happened but just the thought popped into my head. Oh well, have to get third then to make sure !

Yeah if any of those scenarios happen we wouldn't get a CL place. If Arsenal won the CL and finished 5th, Spurs won the EL and finished 6th then I think neither 3rd or 4th in the Prem would get Champions League.

Valid question, but I doubt Arsenal or Spurs will win the European trophies.

I think Liverpool/Spurs have a decent shot at Europa League as they will take it seriously if it looks like their top 4 hopes are over. So ideally we need them to go out in the next knockout round when they will still be focusing on the league.

Seriously what is wrong with people! Such unrelenting negativity.

    It is an irrelevance.
Arsenal are awful and will not win the champions league. They are a one man team and their squad is poor in defensive depth.

Liverpool also are not a patch on the Europa league sides and spurs do not have the squad and cannot afford to play Kane in every game . Also I have heard that if an English side wins the Europa we get 5 sides in the cl next year

This is no longer the case, I believe; a spot is now earmarked for the CL winner beyond the spots allocated for each country (in those instances where they finish outside those spots), as a direct result of the Chelsea/Spurs situation a couple years back.

If this is the case, then the rules have changed without my knowledge - which is possible!

My understanding is that UEFA knew exactly what they doing prior to Chelsea/Spurs situation, and knew full well that that situation could arise. They brought the rule into the avoid a repeat of the Liverpool situation in 2005, where we ended up with five sides in the CL for the 05/06 season (as not having the holders qualify would have been a bit of a farce).

As far as I am aware, the top three qualify plus the CL winner plus the EL winner. If the CL winner is not from your county, or is one of your top three, then forth place qualifies instead. If the EL winner is not from your country, or is one of your top three (or top four, if the CL winner is not from your country) then no fifth side qualifies from your country.

But like I say, the rule may have very recently changed without my knowledge.

I want them both to go quite deep please. Finishing in the top four will become increasingly difficult for either or both if they're embroiled in a deep EL run. Indeed, they may even decide to ditch focusing on the league - particularly if they're also still in the FA Cup too.

And even if they were to go and win the thing, I can't see how that would have any impact on us if we were to finish 4th (subject to the highly unlikely scenario if Schad's link).

    Thanks Schad

So CL winner outside the top four, fourth place qualifies. But if CL and EL winners are outside the top four, fourth place misses out. UEFA happy to let five in, however that is made up, but wont allow six.

You'd get pretty exceptional odds on the CL and EL winners both coming from PL teams finishing outside the top four this season. I'm confident that it wont be happening!

Yeah, if we get a scenario where we finish 4th, Arsenal wins CL while finishing 5th, and Spurs/Liverpool win EL while finishing lower, I'm okay with missing out on qualifying simply because it proves that this season has been nothing but a joke played on us by a cruel and uncaring deity.

The way this season has gone so far for us, we'll finish 3rd, Arsenal will finish 5th and win the CL, Everton will win the EL, and either Liverpool or Spurs will finish 4th!
