Half a season making-do, or chuck money at the problem without really having any of our former targets available anymore? If the club mirrors the forum, then nobody was really prepared for the fact we wouldn’t get Pedro, Sesko, Ekitike… nor that Isak would go quite so mental… So … have at it
As EH is not willing or wanting to play Osula then in my eyes we should buy a striker he's willing to play
Our original targets will remain unavailable in January. We should have scouted more than 3 or 4 options, so go and get a Wilson replacement asap.
Wait until the transfer window is closed and then decide before we disclose our position to CarragherMatt.
Think we need a striker in now, even if we don't sell Isak this summer he's not fit to play yet and probably wouldn't be ready for 4/5/6 weeks regardless so we need someone in and even if he does agree to play for us he won't manage Sunday and Tuesday/Wednesday each week so we need another in anyway. Personally think £50m is to much for Wissa but in the circumstances I'd pay it as he will score goals and would be a solid upgrade on Wilson, if Isak comes back, great, if not then at least we have someone at the top end who can find the net and then we'll just have to make do with Gordon, Osula possibly Joelinton playing up top in support of Wissa. Then we need a solid plan for January and certainly the summer window where we will probably need 3/4/5 upgrades before we replace Isak anyway.
Minded to agree on this… if Wissa could get 15-20 goals a season for next two years we’d see it as good value. At his age it’s dead money after that but wotcha gonna do. Needs must.
If we could guarantee to shift him in 2/3 years to Saudi/elsewhere for "FMV" and regain £15-20m from the £50m and he bags 15 goals a season I'd take that. £35m net spend on him (+wages) for 45 goals over 3 years would be good business.
Consensus is we should bite the bullet and just get at least one striker in now. Which will mean we definitely overpay, that’s baked in for us with both the misunderstanding about Saudi wealth v Club wealth + the desperation + the limited time. I’ll give Eddie a call, but I don’t want to hear any of the class bitching about the price/quality now we’ve made a decision.
“You can't have an improved contract, Alex…. because I can sense my bullshit’s been rumbled here and I wanna **** things up a bit before they give me the push… mwoooha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-haaaahhhh”
We can only “overpay” if we insist on PL experience and success. But how’s that overpaying? It’s the cost of players. If they’re so obsessed with trying to find value, why are we nowhere near Kalimuendo at £25m, or Boniface on loan, or David for free? The club just sound ****ing stupid and I don’t understand it.
If I use “we” then most people don’t check and there’s a good chance they assume I’m right … then there are some people who just have to go chasing the truth and ruin it for everyone (me)
