Absolutely gutted that I'll be missing the game tonight but I've got to make this stupid meeting which doesn't start until 7. I'm hoping to be done by 9ish so I could catch most of the some of the second half but that's a guess more than anything, it could be that it goes on later. Normally I would just keep up to date on my mobile and catch as much of the game as I can but I'm really looking forward to this game and considering recording it and not checking the score, then watching it when I get back as if it were live. It won't be live if I watch it when I get back though and that's something that really bugs me, whenever I rewind to watch something again on Sky I have to fastforward to get back up to speed otherwise it will bug me knowing I'm behind time for the rest of the game.

    So what should I do?

    a) Keep up to date on mobile and hope we finish early enough to get to the pub.
    b) No updates and I hope I make it home without seeing any reference to the result.
    c) See if I can Skype instead of going and try to keep a poker face whilst having the game on silent in the background.

I would have d) cancel/don't turn up but it's not really an option, unfortunately :(

Got to be A or C. Personally I don't think I would ever be able to resist the temptation to check the score before watching the recorded game later. It's like watching MOTD without knowing whether your team won or not...

Is the meeting in the building you work in? If so, burn it down - problem solved :D

PS - Just try not to kill anyone <ok>

Glad I'm not the only one who does that. I've perfected the skill over the years. I can judge exactly how long a throw-in or goal kick is going to take. I can reduce a 45 minute half into about 20 minutes of actual play.

Option (b) because this match is going to be special and you'll need to focus on the whole 90 minutes.

Yeah but I think seeing the score from time to time might torment me more. If we're losing I'll probably throw a strop in the meeting, I know it's stupid but I always feel Spurs play better when I'm watching, even if I'm watching on TV :D I think it's probably what I'll go with though, it's worth a gamble that we win which will keep me calmer and then I can still watch the game when I get back, or not waste my time if we lose.

Nah, I work from home most of the time other than the odd meeting here and there. The meeting's at a hotel conference room and I'm not sure arson is the answer anyway :D

Option E, which is the one I always go for when I end up working late...

    Sky Player. Best invention ever.

Can you still watch sky sports on your mobile? I remember a few years back I was out with work and couldn't get to a TV, so I paid a few ££ and it allowed me to watch all the sky sports channels on my phone for a few days, so you could mute it, pretend your mobile has an important document there which you need to check and when spurs score, you can scream "YES, GET IN" ......the other people in the meeting will freeze, stare at you with shock, while you can respond with "apologies, my enthusiasm got the better of me, thats a great idea, tony (or steve, or chris, or paul)"....

A 'stupid meeting', is that a meeting for stupid people?...people that arrange meetings when football is on! <doh> If you want my advice, get in your car, find the meeting organiser, follow him/her and run them over at the earliest opportunity. This should be enough to get the meeting of the stupids cancelled. :) <ok>

    I'd go with B.
Turn your phone off when you go into the meeting and don't turn it back on until you've watched the game, if that's possible.

I've never used that, is it just an App I need to download as I've got SkyGo? I might use it for the way home if I don't find a pub, although I might need a better internet source than the internet you get with your mobile network.

The meeting is fairly informal so I should be able to check my phone from time to time but I am expected to participate(!) so I don't think I'd get away with putting football on my phone and watching it from time to time when others are talking :D

I think I'm the stupid one as I agreed to "Monday or Tuesday" last week and it only dawned on me what a Monday evening meeting would mean this morning when it was confirmed <doh>

I see!...my plan needs a few adjustments then, no need to get in the car, not difficult now to find the idiot that agreed the meeting...but I'll have to leave it to you as to how you run yourself over!...it'll cost you 5 quid to watch it on one of those spazzy little Hospital bedside telly's, so don't overdo it...always here to help...good luck! <cheers>

if you can do C mate, i reckon that's gotta be the best option.

otherwise, just discipline yourself not to look at any media outlets during the meeting, after the meeting, and for the 1hr 45 mins of the football. Turn airplane mode on, and your wireless off on your mobile!!!

I've done it before, but it's hard. - Not because i've been itching to find out the score, it's just total habit to look at Twitter, the SSN apps, Not606 etc. Before you know it, you've seen the score.

Yeah, it is Sky Go, I think it used to be called Sky Player. Mine runs fairly smoothly on 3g, buffering could be better but I assume if you're in a hotel you'll have access to their wifi? The participation part ruins it a bit though.

I've got a couple of mates over in Leeds who don't like sports, well if you count climbing and outdoory-type stuff they do but not your team sports, anyway whenever I go see them I always pack my ipad for Gillette Soccer Saturday, they don't have Sky Sports, instead they have these stupid wooden things with holes in called "Beastmakers" which they have about 6 of and they're about £70 a pop, for helping your fingers get good for climbing, I can't remember why we're all mates.

Maybe I should've been clearer in the OP but I'm not going to set fire to the building, run myself over(no matter how carefully), ignore everyone and start watching the game or pretend that I am partially deaf :D

The meeting is fairly informal, not quite enough to turn it into a pub "meeting" but enough for me get away with checking my phone from time to time. I think I'm going to go for the updates from the either the Beeb or Sky Sports app and then see if we can finish quicker if I just agree with what everyone says and don't ask any questions. I'm not ruling out a last minute change of heart though and switching my phone to silent, especially if I go all Ladbrokes advert if we score.
