I noticed that earlier (Bored at work) and wondered if it was an Ipswich fan acting out what we should have done all along. If we miss out on him a 3rd time because of a £500k compensation when we are reportedly offering McCarthy £1million a year plus a £1million survival bonus just doesn't add up.

The only thing that worries me about Holloway is that his teams are great offensively but poor defensively. We havent got a tight defence and I cant see our currently players being able to attack like Blackpool. I can see us trying and get beaten every game. I love Holloway and his brand of football but Im not too sure if he has a plan b for when he is in a game where caution is required (ie holding on for a point)

I have to say tractor bhoy, thats the only thing which concerns me. One of my main criticisms of Jewell was that he played too high a line and sometimes we were too offensive for our own good and with poor defenders it was a disaster waiting to happen (which happened many occassions). Ollie has a similar trait with Blackpool who look very poor defensively. But look good going forward. I do hope we have the balls to appoint him, hopefully a new manager will give a the team a lift anyhow.

I may be wrong but I think attackwise Holloway would work alot better with what we've got in the long term. I don't think players like Martin, JET and Taylor are really McCarthy style players (some may like that).

I wouldn't be dissapointed with either but Holloway would be my preference, certainly would be willing to give McCarthy a chance

PTC, Long term I have no issues but we have a rather immediate problem that doesnt really allow time to have a massive change of players. We need solidity first and foremost and to cut out our stupidity - Holloway doesnt suggest that he can.

Holloway is a perfect fit <ok> You say that defensively his teams are poor. I personally don't think they are, I just think at Blackpool he has arranged a system that suits the personnel which is balanced more offensively, he has been gradually getting bigger/better jobs over the past few years which indicates he is a manager on the up, he also clearly has his jovial side which makes him relate-able and approachable but he also has a mean ba5tard side and can rip players to pieces. His main attributes are everything we need. Man management skills, player development, ability to work on a budget, plays entertaining football and is one of the nicest guys in football.

I think it's the bookies panicking because we have been taking our time to appoint someone. I mentioned it earlier that McCarthy's odds were drifting but it seems like it is a head to head between the two and McCarthy is a furlong ahead

Would love to see Holloway here instead but I'm braced for the news of McCarthy's appointment with a subdued acknowledgement at what could have been a brilliant moment for ITFC

King, you may have a point but have you ever seen him put out a team where he doesnt try to play like that? He may be able so shake things up in the transfer window but there a lot of games between now and then. I think the word Ive been looking for is versatility. Holloway is great at what he does but I havent seen him try any other style and we dont have the players for his style

McCarthy also doesnt thrill me but he is normally less adventurous and I can see our current players being more able to be accomodated into a McCarthy line up than a holloway one. Holloway would be more entertaining, McCarthy more stable

Don't think either will save you, sorry.
Mick Mcarthy is a plodder, and you havent got time for him to change huge amounts of personal, and Olly, well he's so attack minded 1-1-9 formation that with your current crop of deffenders(i use the term loosely)you would be down by xmas!

    Disagree Bhoy.

I think the problem is we cant defend to save our lives, A manger that can get our forward line firing again to take pressure off the defense would be far more beneficial.

Mike, Can see the logic just seems a very risky strategy.

I just don't want McCarthy if I'm honest, if he's appointed fair enough, I'll get behind him but I want a manager that we can look at to lead us forward for the next 5,10,20 years - I know football doesn't work like that anymore but I want to have that friendly atmosphere around Portman road again and a cider swilling west countryman is far better than a miserable Yorkshire man who grew up mining for coal.
If we get relegated then so be it, this is a massive decision and for me Holloway is the only viable long term option out of the two of them... And in reality neither have any guarantee of saving us so have some balls and go for the guy that could actually bring us back some glory over the next 10 years rather than the guy who is more likely to succeed over 12 months

clearly pros and cons to both.

i think some are being a bit harsh on mccarthy's personalty and others are getting carried away with olly's!

bit surprised talks are still on-going though. would have expected it to all be sorted in good time for your trip to st andrews. at this rate you'll end up with hutchings in charge again!

Evenin' all. I have been following much of the posts and the thought of Hutchings still running the battered ship at Brum fills me with horror!<doh><doh>

Lots of well resoned arguements between the front 2, and I dare say they will have decided by tonight with press call in the morning. For my honest pennarth, I would personally love to make the 300 mile trip and enjoy the freer less inhibited style of Holloway, but not sure that is our top priority at the moment. We remain perilously close to the trap door and the points to make up - even only in November - will mean us winning a lot of games from now on in. So, I suspect they will go for MM, tho not my natural choice.

As it happens, I drove up to Suffolk and watched the cardiff game and enjoyed our 1st half superiority, free-flowing, entertaining, good on confidence and should have bagged many more goals and buried the match....and then we all know what happened. I got back to Sussex late that night thinking, well we aren't that bad and surely we must turn the corner soon.... Ditto against Brighton earlier. Ran the park and outplayed them much of the game.

So, on checking what players we have at the club, and actually quite impressed, my views is get rid of the dross and wasters - we all know them and ringleader gotta be Chops - and instill the right attitude, discipline and mucho passion... and build up the confidence. If we get a point at Brum it will be a good result. No games will be easy now...but a WIN...gawd, when did we last win a game!??

I would love to manage the squad we will end up with...no-one asked me! And, yes, I would take the £££million bonuses...where has that come from ffs!

Finally, whatever our various views and colourful posts, we must all get right behind whoever the next man is.<ok>
