With a lot of investment in the club this summer and nine new faces bought into the side, I was wondering if we have another mid-table finish this season would it be considered a good respectable finish on which we can build on, or not good enough considering investment on top of a stable squad anyway. I think were too good to go down so should we be pushing for Europe? Opinions?

Considering we've spent less than most years gone by, even less when looking at net spend with Bent and Hendo gone. I expect no better than mid-table. Would be happy with 10th. Anything less is a failure, anything more is a bonus and needs to be capitalised upon.

Whether Short agreed with me or not is the question.

I'd consider a solid 10th progress, I'd consider it a ****ing success if we avoid the mid season collapse that's been the theme for the last few years.

I still think we are 2 players short (LW & CF) for a challenge on the europa league places. If there are no more new faces, then I would expect us to achieve at least 10th spot again. Anything higher would be a Brucey Bonus ;)

IMO we desperately need another striker even if it is someone like piquionne or zigic who I know are'nt exactly brilliant but just to have a forward with premiership experience incase dong and whickham don't hit the ground running.

I think most ppl on here would agree with you, with reference to another striker. However, i feel pretty comfortable with what we have. I look at the midfield and think we need more pure ability there if we're to really make strides.

    Vaughan, Catts, Gardner, Larsson

This midfield doesn't really inspire me, albeit i'm sure they'll give 100%. There's zero pace and very little skill in there. We could find ourselves very much lacking width. I'd like to see Sessegnon on the right wing with Gyan and Wickham or Ji up front, except Sessegnon has been scoring goals playing up top.

Of course, just looking for any improvement. Small steps are to be taken. We are light years of a top six team, so have to do well in the mid-table battle.

I think I feel slightly more positive of our chances than the majority on this thread.

Agree that the top 6 are way ahead of us, butI see no reason at all why we shouldn't be challenging for 7th.

Are Villa, Everton, Newcastle, Fulham better than us?? Not in my opinion, I know whose squad I would rather have.
