Wimbledon sounds way too common and irrelevant.

SSEM Allam has a vision of Hull becoming a city known throughout the world as being a home to top-class, international sport.

Of course, part of that dream will be completed – possibly tomorrow night or maybe even Saturday – if his Hull City side are promoted back into the Premier League.

But whilst most eyes in Hull are on the Tigers, the football club owner has another major sporting milestone on his mind – the first ever staging of squash's British Open in Hull.

The tournament – the 'Wimbledon' of the sport – will be staged at the KC Stadium between May 20-26, thanks to a three-year, seven-figure sponsorship by Allam, and he is desperate to see it succeed.


I think we did indeed get promoted!

 

We should try for the Tennis as well then we can call the city Wimbledon.

 

With the Doc's University links, we could be the Hull Dons.

 

We could get that piece of long awaited silverware!!!
