The sun is out, the birds were tweeting (but why do I have to have those ****ing jackdaws right outside my window at 5am), and it's the start of the new season.

Breakfast. For the first time in decades, poached eggs on toast. Fantastic. But, the real question is, are you a ketchup or brown sauce person?

The game comes later, and it's early. And it's on tv. And it's aganist a side that, with Prem money behind them, must be fancied.

Last year, we were again on tv, but no-one fancied Southampton. Until they saw us being ripped apart. We looked like a bunch of fat, slow, incoherent, sloppy twats. I was ****ing livid. Grayson should have been sacked immediately after that game, we were so far off the pace. What had he been doing all summer in terms of getting the players fit and working as a team? Why did we not have any defenders? Why did he bring in a centre back on loan the day before and play him at left back?

The year before, Norwich had the guts to sack their manager after one game and brought in someone who had the time to make a difference during that year.

I sincerely hope Colin has got our lot up for Championship football, if only in terms of stamina and solidity, cos if we roll over like last year, I predict we will have a very uneasy atmosphere surrounding ER and LUFC.

I have vowed not to spend any more money on LUFC while Bates is there. I feel it's a good ambition to have, but I am not sure how long I will be able to keep it up. Today would have been my first home game missed in many years, but luckily my mate has gone on holiday to Spain and given me his season ticket for the game. Lucky me. Wonder if his flight back will be delayed - for nine months.

I remember back to the year we got relegated from the Prem. I had been unable to get to any games for a while due to serious illness and injury, but once out of hospital I got a half season ticket and sat with my mate in the Kop. The half season ticket cost me £170. The equivalent now would cost over £300. Does anyone think that is fair and right?

[EDIT: Just found some RPI figures and ran a time series: the price should be between £230 and £240 for a half season just through inflation, and that was for watching Premiership football. For a full season ticket, that equates to prices should be about £470 instead of £600 in the Kop - ie 78% of current prices - but that would be for Prem football not Championship or below.]

Bring those ticket prices back down Bates and you will have ER filling up again.

    Over and Out.

It was pretty obvious Grayson did nothing at all that summer in footballing terms. Seemed to let personal stuff affect his day job and I suspect lost respect from the players for his antics. If he didn't, he should have.
Hopefully if the to thing is finalised, Harvey will be in a position to improve the ticket price issue for you people lucky enough to be able to go every week.
Dont worry Elmo, Id say youll be able to stop your boycott shortly

Morning Eire - I hope you are right. £1200 net from my wage to cover me and my lad now he is too old to be in the Family Stand is a hell of a lot to watch something that frankly gives you more downs than ups, and last year was boring as **** 80% of the time.

For anyone with a family, mortgage/rent, bills, food, clothing and general costs to bear, you need to be on a fair amount of money per year just to cover those costs, but then your disposable income needs to factor in the other commitments you have.

chippie - You can't get STs for the South Stand.

    Morning Elmo <ok>, all

Sat with a mug of coffee and a fry up watching SoccerAM and can't wait for the game now. We have to look better than the first day of last season, I don't think it's possible to look worse!

Alas I won't be at Elland Road, as a poor student I can't afford the trips from Durham and ST, but if Bates goes I might be tempted to make the trip on a couple of occasions. Will have to put up with audio streams, the odd TV game and feedback from you guys after the games for the time being. There were a lot of tweets flying around last night saying that the takeover had been signed and it would be announced before the game today. Wishful thinking? Probably. But wouldn't it be amazing if it was true!

I gave up on believing anything about the TO back in early July. Especially if it comes from a rumour either on this site (irrespective whether someone says they know someone who knows someone who....) or on twitter.

I will wait for some official announcement from the new owners/LUFC before truly believing.

I am sure if it had it would have been announced as early as possible to ensure a sell out and big crowd first game of the season. I think IF it is going to happen we are a good few weeks away, Bates is waiting to see how the start of the season unfolds I am sure of that. Maybe Bates started the rumour in an attempt to boost today's ticket sales <ok>

Unfortunately I think you are probably right. I just hope we dont miss out on promotion by a couple of points with Warnock given a large transfer fund half way through season in January through takeover dragging on. Ive a feeling this division is poor this seson and will be up for grabs. I watched first half of Cardiffs game last night and had to give up, it was ****ing awful

Yep I'm sure you're right and there isn't anything to it. Would be too good to be true! I'll go back to taking my not believing until it's official stance, just thought I'd throw a mention in that the rumour was doing the rounds.

Bates is a miserable old sod who hates Leeds fans, we all know that. He isn't going to dip a hand in his pocket for any new signings and I believe it will be a catch 22 for us, if after half a dozen games we are in the bottom half and playing poor football Bates will sell after the transfer window is closed so it would that be too late to turn things around. Yes we might have a pot of cash at Christmas but the chase would probably be too great.

If we are sitting in the top 5 after six games I don't believe he will have any intention of selling. He is playing a waiting game so either way I cannot see us fans winning.

Personally I would take us being bottom half and the old ****er selling up. Then come January add a couple of players who along with some of the talent we already have being bedded in ready for next season. In my own mind the deadline for a T/O was yesterday, we now have 9 points on the table to win or lose in 8 days. Five of our first six games are against newly relegated teams or teams that finished above us last season, we needed the T/O to have happened by now.
