Lets give him a chance. Nobody can seriously expect us to win down there next week so if he's in lets hope he has a blinder. If he doesn't some easy games after that to restore confidence. Personally cannot see him having much to do cos we will have them on the back foot from the first minute.
He saved our bacon with his fantastic save from Bent! How anyone can slate him before he's had a decent run in the team is beyond me? He was rated one of the best keepers outside the prem last season!
I know I dont know what it is with some of the posters on here. I think some of them might be secret geordies!
Forget his recor, lets just look at what we have seen, came on at short notice in a tense game. What did he do wrong, no I cant remeber either. What did he do right, that save. Shouted at defenders so showed confidence and I will be more than happy to see him start next week. Our defence yesterday, after 2 key members had to go off, solid and strong. I am absolutly shocked how anyone can knock them.
I thought he looked okay but it doesn't matter, even if anyone wasn't impressed, we have no other option, he will have to play on Saturday and we will have to hope he doesn't get injured.
Giovanni Trapattoni has named John O'Shea and Keiren Westwood in the Republic of Ireland squad to face Estonia in the Euro 2012 qualification play-offs. The Republic will head to Tallinn for the first leg at A. Le Coq Arena on November 11 before the tie concludes at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin, four days later. O'Shea is in line to win his 74th cap while Westwood, who made his first league appearance for Sunderland over the weekend, has played for his country eight times at senior level. Former Black Cats Paul McShane and Liam Lawrence, now with Hull City and Portsmouth respectively, are also named in the 26 man squad.. Well he can't be that bad then....Nowt like giving the lad a chance, eh! Will we be looking to recruit an emergency g/k?
The Journal says we are looking at an emergency loan as Carson has an injury (and is away on loan) and Gordon is not ready to return yet. That's bad news I think as last we heard Gordon was supposed to be fit by end of October. I thought it had all gone suspiciously quiet from the club on his recovery. Westwood looked fine when he came on, although apart from that Bent save (which was very good imo) he had little to do really. He will get his chance next week, and I hope for our sakes he has a blinder. No, thinking about it let's hope he has nothing to do the whole game!!
I like the look of Westwood personally and he looked fit, confident and pulled off the save of the game. Mig doesn’t fill me with confidence and is still very young and inexperienced for my liking. Give the new lad bloody chance lads eh? As for Gordon, you'd have a better chance of finding out details about Bin Laden and Gadaffi then you would our former number one keeper? Why is the club so secretive about him and just what is the extent of his injury and progress?
On Look North tonight Jeff Brown said that Gordon was at least a month away from fitness. Mignolet has had an operation today apparently so can't see him being back soon either.
