At the KC Stadium two resolutely old school English managers will stand in opposing technical areas when Hull City entertain West Ham and considering the bright start to the season enjoyed by Steve Bruce and Sam Allardyce, there is every reason to suppose this could be a decent game. Many people's idea of relegation certainties after the first half-hour of their season-opener against Chelsea, Hull have been quietly impressive ever since, even in undeserved defeat at the hands of Manchester City. Indeed, were it not for Danny Graham's splendidly bizarre goal drought they would almost certainly be higher up the table. Away from home, the Hammers have not scored in three or conceded in two. We are predicting a high-scoring free-for-all on the decidedly spurious grounds that the law of averages suggests that something has to give. BG If its a free for all lets hope its City with the highest number of goals. The word "bizarre" to describe DG's goal drought suggests that he for one thinks that there is more than skill involved here and that its maybe down to bad luck and serendipity. Lets hope so since things have a habit of changing around in that area. Feel free to move this to the match thread if we have one.
Eh? Serendipity is usually thought of in terms of a 'gift received but not asked for' or something similar. I hardly think serendipity could be classed as a goal drought, not by the recipient of it anyway, I guess it could if you're an opposition player or fan. Nice word though

So re-read my comment "that its maybe down to bad luck and serendipity" i.e. that its maybe down to bad luck and luck-sounds a little nonsensical but perfectly ok with the words "lack of" being implied by me and hopefully inferred by the reader. In the early mid thirties the Daily Mail was indeed noted for being sympathetic to the Nazis. Today I think that its only notable for its poor journalism and and like most other newspapers its leap onto the bandwagon of sensationalism. The Uk seems to have lost all its great newspapers. What went wrong?
