Hard to disagree, especially with his thoughts on Wes. Plus concur that Holt and Martin together doesn't work, as too similar and both too slow
Johnson in the holding role sounds good. Hoolahan just behind the strikers, with Jackson and Morison up front?
Yesterday was only the second time I've felt that Hoolahan should have been brought on and could have changed the game. As for C Martin, I think he's got wider than Holt!
As the article says, I don't think PL is far from his best 11. But, as we all know the line between success and failure is a very thin one. I know we have had a couple of questionable decisions go against us this season, but we cannot and must not keep pointing to those for our failure to have a couple of more points on the board. I will not criticise my team just for the sake of it (I hope it doesn't come across like that), but as someone said on a different thread somewhere, why do we seem to worry more about changing our style of play to beat other teams, why not let them change theirs to try and beat us? I do like CS's idea of Hoolahan just behind the strikers, with Jackson and Morison up front. I think that maybe Holt will struggle a lot more this season than I first thought. Maybe he does need a rest? Come the end of the season, I would like us to be in 17th place or higher, as I'm sure we all do, and not 18th with the words, plucky Norwich, so close and yet so far, ringing in our ears.
I didn't understand why Lambo took Holt off just five minutes after Wes came on, fair enough to bring Vaughan on for Martin to inject a bit of pace but there's no way I the world I would have taken our skipper off at that point, despite the fact it wasn't his best game. Am I the only one who doesn't think Morison is going to be up to the job? Really hope I'm wrong as I was well chuffed when we signed him and expected great things, and while realise it's still very early days from what I've seen of him (nicluding against England the other night) I'm not really sure if he is the answer. I'd love to see Jacko start at the weekend personally, bit harsh of him to be warming the bench in my opinion as he was the form player in the whole country at the end of last season.
In the Wales game Morison was up there on his own and so really didn't have a chance. I think Jackson deserves a start and should be further up the pecking order than C Martin.
Yeah, guess it's a bit harsh of me criticising him when he was playing up front on his own against the 4th best country (lol) in the world, and he did cause them a few problems at times. He probably just needs a goal for us to get the ball rolling, however so far he hasn't looked anything like scoring - he should have buried that header on Sunday for sure.
He's also only started one game and came on as a sub twice. He just needs a couple more starts I think.
It is all part and parcel of being a Supporter that we can all have differing opinions as to who should be in the team. Ask 100 supporters to name who they think is the best starting eleven and you will get 50 different sides. Who is the best holding midfielder - Fox, Crofts or Johnson? Would it be an idea, as someone suggested to me yesterday, to play Barnett and Whitbread ( when fit ) in the centre of defence with De Laet just in front of them? At the end of the day PL sees them all in training every day and knows what system and tactics he wants to employ on the following Saturday. Whatever he decides is good enough for me.
