As an outsider ive never been impressed with Wenger. His transfer dealings have always been poor. Too late, paying too much for mainly rubbish players and refusing to strengthen areas when you're crying out for it. He is tactically inept and boring. As little as 18 months ago you and the media were creaming about how well you play, well I thought you were boring as hell. Passing in triangles and across the midfield at a snails pace might give football purists a boner but to me it was boring and the sheer amount of wasted chances was criminal. He persists in this philosophy of his even though it isn't working and he has no plan B. Never has. You can't goto AC milan away and play the same way you would to wigan at home, especially when atm you'd probably loose to wigan at home. Stoke for all their criticism about playstyle (harsh criticism imo, its not *always* lumpball) at least they recognise thier strengths and play to those. Most recently promoted sides show more fight and tactical ability than Arsenal, hell Swansea can play you off the park at what was your own game.
Well said friend. The truth will hurt some of course but they will see the bringers of it as the ones hurting the club. Like I said, tinted views. These folk never see truth even on a clear day. Fortunately for us and our beloved club, they are a vastly reduced and diminishing breed.
ivor biggun .. i assume its your car your talking about in your name tag? wenger has many faults but c96-2005 he built things (on great foundations mind) that will last the test of time and gives him quite rightly his place in history. we not here to destroy his name or heritage, just comment that in the past few years he has ben found wanting and in that time has become a water bottle kicking ref baiting poor excuse for our manager .. no one i know likes saying this, but no one i know thinks he behaves rightly or can turn this around.
That's the bare facts truth of the matter. We are taken apart by newly promoted sides and struggle against premiership minnows. How therefore we are able to challenge for top places in the EPL or in Europe beggars belief except when you see that other sides have their troubles and we are only there or thereabouts because of their misfortune. We create nothing for ourselves but it seems one or two here believe this keeps us in contention.......
If my memory serves me he started off well at Monaco but as soon as he had been there long enough to make the team his they flopped massively, going from finishing second to just avoiding relegation. Looking at his whole career it seems 2005 and before was mainly due to inheriting one hell of a backbone to a team and some uncharacteristically good buys rather than any tactical ability.
Correct - he is destroying Arsenal the same way he destroyed Monaco. At Monaco he brought through young players who were either not good enough or not ready - and they failed. The one thing that mitigates his failure at Monaco was that corruption was proven in the French league - so he was competing against stacked odds.
Pires, Vieira, Henry, Overmars, Ljungberg - All inherited by Wenger? No they were bought as nobody's and turned into world beaters by Wenger. Two Doubles, 4 FA Cups, 3 League titles a Champions League final and 14 years in the top 4. To say he just 'got lucky' is a gross misrepresentation as simply illustrates the BS you spout.
Pires, Vieira, Henry, Overmars, Ljungberg - all got to play with winners still in the side, like Adams. There were able to compliment a solid defence with strength of character and would have been executed if they gave less than 100%. Three of them were part of the golden generation of French Football where Wenger has great contacts. Ljunberg especially became the player he did largely because of Bergkamp. No trophies won with his own team. He got lucky.
Living in the past does not amount to much either and doesn't hold out anything for the future. Where are the equivalent players to the likes of Pires, Vieira, Henry, Overmars, Ljungberg now? Why have adequate replacements for them not been sourced? The team has been dismantled so much we are now a club in decline. Piskie can't see that because he chooses to live in the past.
You're missing the point again. I'm pointing out where Wenger employed more than simple 'luck' in being successful. I think our current team needs an overhaul.
Why bother harping on about Wenger's success when all this is in the past? Get real man. This is no longer the case now
If you try and understand the point of the OP Robin instead of throwing in soundbites and you might understand what's being argued. Wenger did not simply get 'lucky' - that is a woefully simplistic view. We need changes now, yes, that's clear to see.
no clough was not lucky .. he was stubborn mind and he did relegate nottingham forest before he left ........ great man though great man
He also had a brilliant partner, knew nothing about tactics, Taylor did all that, but he DID get his players to cross the white line believing they were world-beaters. Now consider Wenger- takes no advice, has no idea about tactics, can't motivate......
The OP must be an absolute idiot Wenger success was not luck and you have to be blinded by hate to see that
Would you care to argue your point, or is the outburst above just you clinging on to your own belief?
The crux of the problem, and what is being argued, is that AW is clearly unable to build a top side. He may recognise potential but in recent history that can hardly be described as successful taking the likes of Walcott, Ramsey and Gibbs etc... Up to now his shortcomings in the transfer market have been quite happily over-looked because of his club status but now that we are seeing so many hapless on field performances you have to also question his coaching abilities. If you are serious about wanting change Pixie, how can it be anything other than the manager?
