I remember them. I also remember: Henry Pires Ljunberg Viera Petit Overmars Campbell Luaren Fabregas RVP
I remember Manninger single handedly keeping us in a Cup tie at West Ham once, not sure but it could have been 98 when we won the double...
I remember them. Grimandi was an excellent utility player, he helped us grind out lots of good results. More important question seems to be - what is the point of this article ?
Suker was what, 32 years old when he joined? If it was for a reasonable amount it was a pretty safe transfer for a backup striker. You can only buy players based on the information you have up till the point you buy them...
On the whole Wenger's transfers have been great. Even now he still pulls off absolute great signings like Cazorla for £12 -13 million. It's negotiating that seems to let us down. Don't forget in recent years we have had bids for Gotze, Mata, Lars Bender, Louis Suarez turned down. Shame those guys would really propel us back to the level we should be at. - also Ina side not: Is there a reason I can only log in on my phone ATM?
It seems that trend started when david dien left, as I believe he was heavily involved with negotiating transfers.
That was a different era from now with the oil money, but you're right. Dein made the club attractive for players who wanted to work with Wenger and we had our finger on the pulse for some great deals and we didn't spend huge money like Utd either.
Get A.Manninger off that list he was pivotal in winning the league in 97/98 when Seaman got injured. For me he was a legendary buy.
Everyone makes bum buys at times, but most of the time Wenger gets it right. For the way he's run things on a strict budget and got us continuous top 4 is something of a great achievement. I don't agree with the way our transfers are paning out nowadays, but it's hard to diss some of his super budget buys.
