Howard Winston , Jim Driscoll , Johnny Owen, Steve Robinson , sure I have missed many off the list , all great in their own way , Wales for such a small nation has produced some excellent boxers

Tommy Farr, Johnny Owen, Colin Jones and Joe Calzaghe spring to mind.

Calzaghe v Lacy has to be one of the best fights i've ever watched. Totally out boxed Lacy for all 12 rounds.

Yes he did. It was the first time Calzaghe had to go 12 rounds in a fight, and was also the first time Eubank had been knocked down in the first round.

I always thought Watson would eclipse both Benn and Eubank until his career was cut short in the Eubank fight.
On the other side of the water the likes of Leonard, Hagler, Duran and Hearns.

Aber, good thread, prompted memories. I had a couple of clients who were boxers. Rudy Pika's father who was from Estonia, but married a welsh lady. He was always raving about young Rudy's progress. Rudy fought Frank Bruno as an amateur, and was undefeated as a professional. Also Bonnie (Patrick) MacKenzie not so successful, but a very nice bloke. I loved boxing when it was on the terrestrial channels, but I overloaded on Sky and never really bothered after. Sadly Bonnie and Rudy died young! :emoticon-0103-cool:

I have a real soft spot for Steve Robinson, was very lucky to have meet him, absolute gentleman, his story to winning the world title is the stuff of Hollywood , also defended his title seven times .
Remember on the news watching about Johnny Owen and his death when I was quite young , stuck with me for years afterwards , saw the documentary about him ( not sure of the name of it ) was a fantastic watch.
