10 points ahead before end of Jan boring 1-0 wins 'lucky' goals most weeks. Another win. Noone close to us in league. Oh, how i wish for.. cock ups in defence exciting, aimless displays under Parky's reign. Some meaningless loan players just getting fit for someone else losses to the likes of Rochdale,Exeter and Hartlepool Donkey displays up-front. Oh, how i wish for the good old times .!
BTW, we have now won as many games away as Brighton did in the whole of last season... P W D L F A W D L F A W D L F A GD Pt 1 Brighton and Hove A 46 28 11 7 85 40 17 4 2 54 22 11 7 5 31 18 +45 95 2 Southampton 46 28 8 10 86 38 16 4 3 44 13 12 4 7 42 25 +48 92
Beware the ides of March Be careful what you wish for We have still to play Rochdale and Hartlepool at home. March has 7 matches in it including Bournemouth, Scunthorpe and Huddersfield away. Scunthorpe away is only 4 days after the ides of March. Let us hope that none of us have to read Mark Anthony's speech.
It's difficult to follow that portent-filled post, SVC but I'll offer up that our fluke goal yesterday was celestial payback for the outrageous deflections that cost us the games at Stevenage and Orient...
i think only an almighty cock up can stop us now. we have a 3 game lead, which we have to lose all 3, and then 2 of the 3 teams below us have to win the same 3 games we lose, whilst they still have to play each other. any one have any ideas on whats happened to paul hayes? why did he get dropped?
Tewks No defence is impregnable. The point I was trying to make is that Caesar thought he was omnipotent and his belief that he was better than the rest led to his downfall. My heart will be very firmly in my mouth for every game until we are 9 points clear with 3 games to go. So if we play Carlisle away (always difficult) with our current lead I will beleive that we have done it, not until. Other sides get wise to our tactics. They have successfully nuillified the Kermorgant Wright Phillips attack and we have got goals from elsewhere. If we change the attack will we be as potent from midfield? There will be a lot of difficult games ahead where we won't get a lucky goalkeepers fumble or free kicks from just outside the box. Yes I know the Owlsbladesuddersdons can also trip up but my chicken calculator is firmly in my pocket until Carlisle and maybe if my fears come true until Hartlepool. Remember two seasons ago where Leeds were at the turn of the year and where they ended up. CP knows it is a 46 match season - we as fans have got to respect that fact as well.
You get a better class of post on here, Stu. Yes, I agree SVC - I can't find it now, but I posted a while ago that I was more concerned about this batch of four games than about the two Sheffield games and there's a world of difference going into each game thinking we're going to win it and going into each game convinced we're not going to lose it. Of course, I'd like to see us thump someone four or five nil, but as long as the wins keep on coming, I'm not much fussed what the margin is or who scores the goals. It's a good point about our attack being sussed - remember what happened at the start of last season, once the spell was broken things never looked the same again.
Great post Stu... I'm absolutely loving the fact we've turned into Arsenal of the 90's. I'd happily take a 1:0 win every week. Afterall, you get the same amount of points for winning 1:0 as you do for winning 5:0. Bet the Chelsea fans wouldn't say no to a return to the so called 'boring' yet effective Jose M era.
Think the next 2 games should tell a lot about whether the portents ring true. Home vs Bury and Rochdale are games where we should be scoring more than one goal, whereas vs Sheffields and Exeter away you take the points any way you can. Given that we want the Kermit/BWP partnership to reap rewards, I think it'd be a strange time to change it just before two eminently winnable home games. And whilst some would say it was a freak goal vs Exeter and therefore should have been 0-0... had we not scored then we would have kept pressing a lot more rather than defending the lead, so it would have been a different game and could well have still ended up 1-0.
I see where you're coming from TVR. I agree we ought to beat Bury and Rochdale but, does it really matter how we do it? Just so long as we take the six points I couldn't give a monkeys if it's 1:0 or 10:0. At the start of the season the plan was to get out of this god forsaken league. I for one couldn't care less how we achieve our goal just so long as we do. Yes there’s a big part of me that would love to see us thrashing teams but, I’m mindful of the nightmares of seasons past and I therefore am not going to be greedy. Our football is winning football and that’s all that matters to achieve our ambitions. We must treat Rochdale and Bury with the respect they deserve, and lets not forget that we have no god given right to win any game. Rochdale are scrapping for their lives as they're in the bottom four, and Bury will be desperate to bounce back from a comprehensive beating at the hands of Rochdale. Each and every game must be approached with the same importance and professionalism. I have faith that this set of players will do just that.
