    While supporters from teams such as Coventry and Sheffield United were not very happy, particularly the former, they were reaping loads of praise in our direction;

Clubs like Gillingham and Walsall keep their best players when it matters.. We pull our pants down and bend over.. GOOD ONE

Well done #Gillingham for having the balls to reject bids, unlike the team I unfortunately support, the **** that is @Coventry_City .

    £2Million Dack deal rejected <applause><applause><applause>

So now will all the Scally knockers at last give the guy some praise :)

My praise for Mr Scally was and is always qualified. Being a human being he is prone to mistakes, as are we all.

He saved the Gills and took us into the Championship...and has chaired us through three Wembley play offs and a first Championship promotion since 1960. I disagree with his vision of a 15-25K seater stadium for the same reason that I mocked Bristol City's 'goal'. A big stadium being at best a third to half full is a miserable place......a 10-12K full stadium would be a veritable cauldron of passion. I know which I'd rather have.

He has had his run ins with the FA but stayed the course with the club's best interests at heart.....and now being back in the UK full time things are more settled.

The only thing he lacks are 'bigger pockets' and more money, but hey where does one draw the line......can we ever compete financially at the top level and more importantly would we as a club want to?

Hi - a Bristol City fan in peace <peacedove>

Firstly let me say that Bradley Dack is Gillingham's player and as such Gillingham have every right to keep their player.

Personally I think any more than £2m at this stage would probably be overpaying. The lad undoubtedly has potential to go far, but bids in excess of £2m would be a gamble for the buying club. How much of a gamble is debatable.

I have to say that I think Mr Scally made the right decision for Gillingham FC in rejecting our bid for two reasons:
    1. Dack is still young and should "train-on" to become an even better player. If that happens the fee will be higher than the bid from us. I do think this will happen
    2. Gillingham are pushing for promotion this season, and as such selling the (best?) player would hurt that. To his credit Dack has said that he is happy to stay (he would probably have quadrupled his wages if he joined City), and while that is the case his form should remain good.
Anyway - all the best for the rest of the season - hope to play you in the Championship next season

SMHBCFC..... Thanks for your post. We all want the best for our clubs and unfortunately when cash is dangled under either player's noses or chairmen's the club can suffer in it's goals. Here's hoping for the best for both our clubs. :)

Firstly very happy that Dack and Egan remain. Lets hope they sign longer contracts with us. If we don t make championship expect both to leave but at least should get bigger fees if under better contracts. This money could bring in 4 or 5 quality players where we can challenge again. Think £2 million for Dack is fair as long as there is add ons if he leaves in the future like Jarvis. £1 million for Egan if under contract again with add ons.

I am surprised and delighted that we have retained our players (full and loan) until the end of the season. The success of Alli and Vardy in the Premiership (Vardy non league only 4 years ago) has focused attention on English lower league players, this in turn has increased values for such players.
Well done PS for showing that his focus is on Gillingham and not just cashing in.

Well done Mr Chairman. Took some real guts to turn a bid of £2 million down especially as the accountants weren't aware of the bid until Tuesday. To also turn down a bid from Brentford rumoured to be between £350,000-£500,000 for John Egan shows that he does want us to move us forward. For JED it should be reassuring for him to know he can work with players of that calibre and still keep hold of them so well done Mr Scally!
