That was a dreadful game of football from our point of view, Tierney was absolutely ****ing useless, skinned everytime by the winger. It was reminisent of watching England, 'flat back 9', we just resorted to hoofball and it wasn't pretty. That is not negative that's realistic! ILD OTBC
Let's have some perspective people. We played the current Dutch champions as their final pre-season match so not only were we playing one of the better teams in Europe but they were also a couple of weeks further along in their pre-season. We have a new manager and coaching staff as well as a couple of new players and players coming back from long term injuries. Given these facts I am not surprised that we looked poor incomparison with Ajax. Let's give CH and his staff time to work out their best team and formation, get our players match fit and then see where we are.
I can imagine Chelsea fans saying much the same: "We only won the EC because Barcelona and Bayern failed to finish; it wasn't anything to do with us being amazing in defence"!
we miss fox - he's our metronome. but as big a fan as i am of his, we need someone built of sterner stuff who can also do what fox does with the football. these players do exist but finding one we can afford may be a stumbling block
Interesting to see the comments regarding Tierney - couldn't make the game last night as I had to be in Manchester but he didn't look that great on Saturday against the Posh either - I put that down to being a bit rusty and coming back from his long-term injury. I hope that he regains the form we saw at the beginning of last season as that is going to be an important area for us.
i thought tierney did ok. he was beaten two or three times for pace by his man but he wasn't as horrific as being made out above. put a few tackles in and did one nice turn away from his marker. couldn't get forward much though. as you say, it'll take a little while for him to get his sharpness back but its good to have him back as we missed him last year
I thought Tierney played pretty well last night. Pilks and Surman aren't as good as Elliot Bennett when it comes to helping their full back, so Tierney was left more exposed, as well as being up against good, fast wingers. ILD's description of him as "absolutely ****ing useless" is way off the mark as far as I'm concerned. Just my opinion of course -- as always!
And will someone tell Steve Morison to shave his head. He doesn't look half as menacing now he's grown it. His hair that is.
could be worse folks, we could be talking about losing to Southend if we were 40 miles up the road....
Good game; Ajax classy. Best bit was when Pilks passed the Dutchmen from the left-hand side. Let's not take pre-season games too seriously. We have surely learnt that, after the superb winning streak in Scotland in 2009.
The guy that was in the advert for those ***s committed suicide and left a note saying it was because of loneliness. True story.
