I’m pretty sure we will see a 4-2-3-1 and a 4-3-3 depending on the opposition.

Longstaff, Stach, Ampadu I don’t see where they all fit in a 4-2-3-1 as for a striker, I don’t understand big money for Muniz

As on Outs Joseph is a hard one because we can't just fold we have to be in charge of the deal. I see see valid points for both a transfer and a loan but what we do is down to the club.
If we can get what we want for Joesph now all good. just seems we are struggling but we shouldn't just give in. The ball's in our court.
Loaning Joesph out could go 2 ways. what we saying he's worth £10m? send him out on loan and say he scores 15-20 goals that £10m becomes £18-£25M.. I just wouldn't add a buyout clause just a simple loan. work the loan to our advantage not any one else's.
If it all goes baps up on loan we still have a young player who still will improve we just have to try a bit harder to get that player back to a £10m Mark.

Joseph will always believe he is better than he is and a sulker, let him go for £5m and slap a huge 50% sell on clause

As Ristac says it will look something like...

    -------------Perri
    -------Rodon-----Bijol
    Bogle------------Gudmundsson
    -------Ampadu---Stach
    -------------Tanaka
    James--------------------Paixão
    ----------------Muniz

Its a more reserved system than last season with the Tanaka role sitting a little deeper than Aaronson would. It's flexible given the options we now have in the squad. For example, Take Tanaka out and play Aaronson and we are much more in the front foot. You could leave Ampadu in the sole anchor role and play Longstaff and Stach as box to box players. Or you could play a line of 3 with Ampadu, Stach and Gruev to sit deep and hold tight.

Its interesting what Farke will do in midfield. Someone will miss out. Ive a feeling he sees Piroe as an option at 10 to rival Aaronson for the odd game we play that system.

We wont be as gung ho this year which is sensible. We should be a bit more structured and methodical. Could be quite ugly at times.

Its completely natural for Joseph to want out. It's not the ideal way to go about it though.

From his point of view, he has scored a lot of goals in the youth and with Spain u21's. Alot of people telling him that he could be the next Spain striker. He's done okay at Leeds with the first team without really setting the league on fire. There have been rumours of bids around £10 million for him. For him, that is all super things he is hearing about himself. He's a confident guy and backs himself to have a good career.

He looks at previous teammates from the 21s like Joffy, Greenwood who stuck it out and got nowhere. Then he looks at Max Dean and Cresswell who have both kicked on with their careers after leaving Leeds.

Then he ends up behind Piroe, Bamford at the end of last season and it must be frustrating if you are confident in yourself. When he goes away with Spain you can imagine everyone telling him to come back home and play. His agent has obviously told him to put in a transfer request.

Joseph is a young lad. Im not saying he shouldn't know better but it must be hard when your advisors are telling you stuff every day.

Hopefully we get the money and he gets the move.

I think the question was a lineup with what we currently have <confused> <whistle>

Ampadu’s a strange one for me. He’s a better CB than midfielder imo.

He won’t be an automatic starter in midfield. Nice problem to have though.

Apologies. It was more of a system I was trying to show.

    Instead of Perri put Darlow/Meslier.
    Instead of Paixão put Gnonto/Ramazani.
    Instead of Muniz put Piroe/Nmecha.

There are arguments for Longstaff to make the midfield spot too.

I think Ampadu will be a starter. Him and Stach are similar though.

There are rumours we might go a back 3 but I don't see that happening. When the full backs bomb on, Ampadu sits deep and covers, often moving to a back 3 if the opposition leave players high up the pitch to counter. Stach can also do this and Gruev is exceptional at the role. Players need a high level of discipline to do it and a real understanding of the game. Gruev, Ampadu and Stach are all very good readers of the game.

My hunch is Ampadu is better in midfield than Longstaff, Gruev. I have high hopes for Stach. Tanaka is a different type of player. Aaronson slightly different to anyone else we have.

yeh we’re in a minority in thinking that… our defensive record with amps at CB was better than any other combination I think. I like him midfield but he’s obviously a DM so it probably depends on the blend around him. Either way Farke has made it clear he’s a big fan so will be a shock if he’s not a starter.

with respect to how we line up… think the friendlies have shown the plan. I suspect it will be horses for courses and potentially making changes within a game subject to how it’s going. Ie 433 will be a major option if not the default this year.

I understand this but I think this is more a reflection on Struijk than Ampadu.

Plus Ampadu is only 6ft. He'll get bullied in the PL at centre half. He'll be much more effective in midfield and if he struggles then Stach can take the role.

I think we can all take a stab at first choice but it’s a squad game, and last year showed we needed different midfielders with different attributes and cover for injuries.

Re Muniz… I saw your comment that your Fulham fan mate doesn’t rate him. It’s always good to get fan feedback - I don’t know any Fulham fans but from sniffing around I think there are mixed views on him, though he has a bit of cult status. The guy has scored at anfield (where he did van dijk) the etihad and Stamford bridge - 3 very different goals but all 3 showed a great first touch. In both seasons in the PL he has exceeded his xg. I’m sure at times he looked a donkey too but from what I’ve seen… he has something. Maybe I’m just convincing myself <laugh>

it’s also clearly a profile thing… it may be that he suits our requirements for a striker more then Fulham’s. It’s how the game is these days… I looked at players most like muniz… and top of the list was Beto…. Who we have also been linked with. I trust it’s more than just football manager stats approach but they obviously think he’s the one who meets the profile and is available.

Actually I was talking bollox (no change there then) it was our defensive record that was better when he was in midfield - not sure how it was when he played at CH. You may be right re being bullied physically - there’s no doubt we bought beef to central defence for a reason. Either way we now have two DMs in Stach and Amps who can do a job as a CB if needed. We’ve certainly strengthened the spine.

Seems the Perri deal will be anounced later as the medical passed and hes now a Leeds player.

Real Betis are getting a battering in Spanish sports media, maybe Este knows something. I hear that Spanish clubs are sick of the free loading Betis club who cry poverty all the time even when they sell €40m worth of players. They have had our pants down 3 times and done the same in Spain. Man Utd have told them to fk off and refuse to loan them Anthony again and Leeds should do the same pay the money or no deal ever.

Piaxoa deal look like not happening as it seems Dutch and French media are stating that he wants Marseille and they have gone back in with the same offer as Leeds, plus Roma are also sniffing. We should walk away as we dont want to get into a bidding war. The player agreed terms with Marseille and hasn’t done with Leeds so walk away and get the next on the list.

On the formation topic we don’t really see much action on a ten do we? Yes we hear about Hamer and Buendia but nothing in reality just gossip. If we go in like last season we end up with Aaronson or Gnonto or even Tanaka. But in front of the back line you have Ampadu, Stach, Longstaffe in a 4-3-3

Callum Wilson signing for WHU so one of the old lads less to have stories about. Another one that’s getting some mileage is the Iranian Mehdi Terami but hes 33yo so why would we. He had a nightmare season in Seri A only scoring once. I admit his record prior to that was world class and he’s scored goals everywhere he’s been except last season. Why would we gamble on someone older than Bamford

Wouldn’t be surprised if we signed DCL from Everton.
