Plenty to digest here because Jammy is correct about blooding more kids by having get experience on the bench and maybe even minutes. However we also know that when we have players missing on International duty or injured, we use U23 players in training and when we have a 23 game at the same time we forfeit that game by fielding younger kids? Now in some respects thats all part of learning but lets not have fans kicking off about poor results for the 23s as some do (not on here) the games we have been beaten so far is when we put out a very inexperienced team. I believe we are still 3rd anyway? Another downside is that if it means Greenwood, Gelhardt and Dramah on the bench they are crucial to the 23s?
You can’t just put kids on the bench, they have to be ready. Only Shackleton has really come through and he looked way off in the last game he played.
I'm thinking about players like Struijk, Doc... He had a few minutes against Cardiff (h) last year and it didn't particularly go well for him. Next time he got his chance against Barnsley he grabbed it with both hands. Getting that 1st team debut and then going away for a few months and working hard proved vital in his case. Players like Joffy and one or two others could definitely benefit the same...give them a tiny taste of the big time and then see if that drives them on.
IMO 5 subs really only helps the mega-rich teams with big squads. How much more of an advantage do they want? Greedy bastards.
That was the view the PL clubs last time they voted on it. Needs 14 from 20 to be in favour for it to pass and I expect that to happen now more clubs think they'll be ok regarding relegation.
Think that 14 of the top 15/16 as it stands will see it as an advantage and an opportunity to gain a further edge over the clubs at the bottom. We voted in favour last time.
5 subs means that half of the team can be replaced during the match. That doesn't help us, as we get a noticeable benefit from opponents having tired legs towards the end of a match, whereas we've still got all cylinders firing right up to the death. So it's a no from me to 5 subs. Having said that, this advantage was greater in the Championship than it is in the PL, and you can see that most PL teams are much fitter than last years' opponents, so it won't be such a great loss to us if implemented. Indeed, as mentioned above, we actually may get a long term benefit for our kids.
How can you change the rules part way through a season? 3 subs is plenty. Just the FA sidetracking more important issues, stupid internationals and the total **** up that is VAR.
Well we are still 8 points above relegation places and actually played like a top 6 team and unlucky not to score 5 after hitting the woodwork 3 times, a great save from the German keeper and Klich playing rugby twice and and a Bamford open goal. We had 64% of the play against Arsenal people. A team we always dreamed about playing after 16 years in the wilderness. Disappointing result but a great team performance and we get to hold our heads up again
