IMO poiltics and religion shouldn't be brought into sport. Mclean though is a particularly nasty individual and it's not just his non poppy wearing antics that wind me up. He wasn't even born when the troubles were on and for someone who hates the Queen, he's quick enough to take the money. I'd ban blessing yourself or pointing to the sky to an imaginary being as well. I don't think you should be forced to wear something you don't want to, but I don't agree with his decision. <ok>

I’m with you. I don’t agree with his decision but I do agree on his freedom of choice to make it. That’s what the fallen have died for.

Spot on London. It's such a divisive subject. Personally I think it should have been sorted out years ago. Just drop him for those games and get him to donate some of his wages to a charity. <ok>

yeah but he has to make a big point of it does he not.war is not about glory and rememberance is not for the war it's for the fallen and the maimed and disabled and mutilated by the folly of war started by the hun.if it was not for these brave souls we would all be german slaves and the freedom of choice would be gone.our brave soldiers went to aid the french it was a fight for freedom and this pillock would not have that choice.

The thing that annoys me is he said we should respect his choice, why he shows no respect,it has to be earned.fook him, drop him.

McLean is an attention seeking ****, who believes his actions make him some sort of Republican hero. Many Irish catholic men went to war with the British forces to fight for freedom and to oppose a tyrant, some were abused when they returned and many of those returned to Britain to find a home, because of bigots like him, who stupidly believed they'd be better off with Hitler ruling the world.

And they fought to give him the right to make the decision he has freely. As annoying as it is, by dropping it would be us that would be us that would be denying his freedom of choice so going against everything that they fought for. Agree he's a prat but as you say, if he is seeking attention, best to ignore him and let him get on with it and deny him the attention he wants from his 'stance'.

Exactly, if the press just ignored it, it would be the best thing to do.

I, like I am sure most on here, will wear a Poppy with pride every year. I do this of my own free will.
I would not say anyone should be forced to wear a Poppy, that's their free will.
I would however be most interested to know what reason this self opinionated pr-t has for not wishing to wear one.

Every year this prick gets publicity for his contempt for fallen soldiers of Britain and every year he brings up about a couple of his uncles who were killed by British troops and how he grew up on the bogside, what he hasn't grasped is if Britain and then in turn the whole of Ireland was invaded by the Germans during the second world war, there would had been no troubles in 70's and it would had been Germans stamping down on any disorder the Republicans could had mustered.
He should be grateful it was the soft touch British and not the hardcore nazis that were in charge.

He should be blaming his uncles for fighting on the wrong side.
He would have been better in the bog rather than in the bogside

If they are letting him go for free,it's because he must be on £150,000 a week.

He asked for nearly £300,000 a week and the new manager said he wasn’t worth that and have now withdrawn their original offer.
