Gerard's an Evertonian. I know there's some fabricated story about his uncle making him wear the kit for the famous photo but everyone knows that's bollocks. Like McManaman, Carragher and Owen he's an Evertonian so Liverpool are by no means his boyhood club! He'll look back on his career and think "bollocks"!

T'was always the way SAF did business tho' - identify a player he wanted to build part of the team around and then break the bank to get him. Keane, Stam, Yorke, Rio, Veron, Rooney, Hargreaves, Berb, RVP all moved for big sums cos they were the player SAF had identified as first choice. And in the case of Rooney you have to say that, ten years, 200+ goals, five league titles and a CL later he's worked out plenty good value
