10 years ago today, he joined us from Everton for £25.6 million, bloody hell, that went quick, he's had a lot of success during that time and he's scored some world-class goals as well.
Never reached his potential Matth, most of his best games came in the first five years. He has gone backwards.
£25.6 million was a **** load of cash back then - I wonder in the same circumstances what his value would have been in today's market?
Gerard's only got the one from last season. Joking aside, when he retires from throwing big games I suspect the hardcore red men will petition the Premier League to award Slippy G with an honorary PL winner's medal. Worked for his MBE.
If Stevieme really wanted one that much, he should have signed for United. It worked for Micheal Owen
Gerrard stayed with his boyhood club and acheived everything possible except the (PL) which he could still get, you never know! I'm certain he'll look back at his career when he hangs his boots up, with great happiness, either way.
Gerard's an Evertonian. I know there's some fabricated story about his uncle making him wear the kit for the famous photo but everyone knows that's bollocks. Like McManaman, Carragher and Owen he's an Evertonian so Liverpool are by no means his boyhood club! He'll look back on his career and think "bollocks"!
By 'boyhood club' I meant the club he came through the ranks at and made it all the way to possibly becoming the greatest player to ever wear the red shirt. The Everton story, could be true, might be bollox - who knows? I know Carra grew up supporting Everton as a kid.
Well, the transfer record back then was £50m. Now it's £85m. So, (I know this this is a bit simplistic, but I can't think of any other way) transfer fees have gone up by about 70%. Making Rooney's fee roughly £43m in today's money
Isn't that roughly what PSG paid for Lucas Moura? And not that much more than Chelsea paid for Hazard, tho he was a couple of years older. T'was always the way SAF did business tho' - identify a player he wanted to build part of the team around and then break the bank to get him. Keane, Stam, Yorke, Rio, Veron, Rooney, Hargreaves, Berb, RVP all moved for big sums cos they were the player SAF had identified as first choice. And in the case of Rooney you have to say that, ten years, 200+ goals, five league titles and a CL later he's worked out plenty good value
