What, history told you SAF would have not years ago dropped Rooney? <doh> SAF drops who he wants and when. You have absolute no insight or knowledge into what SAF was trying to do. You have just sucked up the media hype and speculation that Rooney is going because SAF made a decision to play Welbeck which tbh worked very well in the first match between the two clubs. I have no idea whether or not Rooney will be sold later this summer or indeed next but the media being the media have decided to create this story to try and sell papers and you like many others have swallowed it sink, line and hook. If Utd had won the match, very few journalists would have been shouting that Rooney was on his way out.

At the moment unless I'm very much mistaken there has been nothing from Rooney, his agent, Utd or SAF. In otherwords, this is a non story. Until something official is said, its all a load of balls.

<applause> Well done for completely ignoring my arguement that there is not one shred of proof that Rooney is about to be sold. The only reason you have argued this is because he was not selected for the match and that the media have put 2+2 together and got whatever bloody figure they want. Every player has their price but until it is said he's for sale, I'll not listen to the crap some of the media publish and I'll think for myself.

    What?

I didn't say there was any proof did I?

My view has **** all to do with the media & everything to do with my own opinion, so don't patronise me with that ****e, thanks all the same.

If anyones ignoring the point, it's you. I simply think that the Ferguson leaving him out a game of that magnitude speaks volumes as to how important he views Rooney's current contribution, as he's not left him out of such key games in the past, as he's was always the fulcrum of your side.

He's going nowhere. I think the plan was for Rooney to come on around 65 minutes and really make Madrid think twice about poring forward. We'd either settle the game down or using Rooney as a potent attacking threat. Sadly the red card scuppered all of that.

I'm not ignoring anything. So he was dropped, big deal :emoticon-0113-sleep. Rooney's been dropped before and so what? The fact remains before the Real match the media where not printing Rooney's going stories, only now after Utd went out. Totally and utter speculation. Might as well say Karim Benzema with 14 goals this season was dropped to bench  Must be signing for City.

The speculation is to be expected, Rooney being left out, has lead to the press making their own judgements about his future, none of it has any substance.

The fact remains though, that a few years ago, deliberately leaving a fully fit Rooney out of the starting XI for Uniteds biggest game of the season would have been unthinkable.

I agree the stories are complete speculation with no substance, but its the typical British press. However just because SAF leaves out Rooney does not mean he's on his way out. I'm not saying that Wayne will stay for the rest of his career but it is folly to believe the nonsense being speculated cause of one match.

In the four seasons since Ronaldo left, Wayne Rooney has scored over 30 goals in two of the seasons and Utd ended up not winning the league in either of those seasons but instead managed to do so in a season when Rooney was not so relevant (The contract season)and it was Nani, Berbatov and Vidic that were the outstanding players that season and then we have this season when Van Persie has taken over the main striking duties at the club and once again Utd are running away with the league.
You have to then ask yourself, at £250k per week, if he is not the main man at the club, has he become expendable?
A lot of fans and pundits would have seen a near Man of the match performance against Norwich as justification of starting against Madrid but SAF would have seen the first hour of continuosly misplacing passes and moves breaking down when they got to him and only when RVP was taken off and Rooney became the number 9 and Kagawa the number 10 that things improved.
For me , Rooney is a number 9. A lot of people think he is a number 10 or can even go back in to the midfield because they believe he has a good range of passing, but a good range means short and long range passing, and whilst his long range passing is good, his short passing is distinctly very average and as a result a lot of moves break down with him and it also means that when he plays the number 9 position he is not always able to hold on to possession, hence the reason in my opinion for SAF to go all out to sign RVP.
Making a case for him to have played out wide is even worse because as you saw he was anonymous at the Bernabeu and regardless, there are players at the club who play the wide positions a lot better than him because it is their natural positions.
A lot has also been made of his workrate and his ability to always track back, but that same ability has worked against him tactically by being left out for Welbeck, because Rooney will always chase around like a madman trying to be everywhere all at once because you can't confine him to a positional tactical duty. It would mean that he gets tired a lot quicker, he will be out of position on counter attacks Therefore affecting the duties of the other players around him.
In conclusion it leads me to believe that Rooney is fighting RVP for the number 9 position and whoever SAF thinks is the superior will always get the nod in that position so in that case will Rooney want to continue playing second fiddle to RVP or will he be content to be moved in to other positions to be accommodated likely meaning that he might be the one to miss out again on such a big occasion as the game against Madrid, or will he just decide that he has had enough and that he wants to play as the focal point and go to a club that will play him as such.

Rooney starts one game on the bench and the press make up all sorts of **** about him leaving. Ridiculous, but not as ridiculous as all the idiots who believe this garbage.

I don't mind if he goes tbh, after the nonsense 2 years ago, I lost alot of respect for him.

If we got 25 million, and we didn't have to pay his ridiculous 200k a week wages, I think it's good business.

Plus I've always had a few issues with any scouser playing for us

    agree ..
meanwhile i wished if we replaced Giggs with Rooney the minute we gone down to 10 men down
his quality and work rate would had done us big favor to compensate going down to 10 men

Rooney is not going nowhere, when We scored, Did any for you guys see Rooney's celebrations on the touchline? he didn't look unhappy.

Im sure Sir Alex must of spoken to him and he must of agreed, Rooney is a true professional.I don't get this, every time Rooney gets on the bench the media gets hyped up and thinks he wants to leave just like at the start of the season against Fulham.

Rooney will be at United for a very long time.

anyone heard Ian Holloway's comments? he's so right.

Fergies word means nothing. He's hardly going to come out and confirm their ambition to move him on when there's still a domestic double to be won. He doesn't want anything to encourage another collapse like the end of last season.

"Do you think we'd get into a contract with that mob? Jesus Christ, no chance. I wouldn't sell them a virus. So that's a no"

4 months later Ronaldo was sold to Madrid.
